These past few weeks because of the hurricane a lot of our friends and family were affected. I can’t help but to count the blessings that came from it. I saw neighbors helping each other, families coming together, a storm that interrupted our daily routines gave us a chance to pause and be thankful. Let us rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances. - Alex Fuertes, Maintenance Supervisor

LACDD NEWS By Christine Wells, LA (LW) CDD Community Director Joyful conversations have been filling the Clubhouse as year-round residents reunite with seasonal travelers. With the population at Lake Ashton increasing residents should be mindful of changes in traffic. Many residents are out and about enjoying the cooler temps and lower humidity and should be able to do so in a safe environment. The time change on November 3 will bring darkness earlier than past months. Be sure to be prepared and wear reflective clothing or bring a flashlight along if walking at dusk or later. Supervisors and Staff would like to wish Residents a Happy Thanksgiving. Don't forget to stop by the Clubhouse Foyer to add what you are thankful for to our "Thankful Board". In this edition of the LA Times, residents will find many opportunities to celebrate the upcoming holidays and give back to the communities surrounding Lake Ashton. Be sure you get your tickets to the Thanksgiving Community Potluck, support Alzheimer's research by joining Team Sam in the Walk to End Alzheimer's, and donate to The Mission of Winter Haven and the Lake Wales Care Center November 1 — 15 for the annual food drive. Residents will also note that many clubs are resuming monthly meetings. Stop by the Activities Office and see Caroline to get more info on how to join some of the clubs advertised. All Clubs are open to all residents. If your experience is anything other than that please contact Christine at cwells@lakeashtoncdd.com. Supervisors and Staff are thankful for all of the facilitators and want to ensure all residents are welcomed by the leaders and members of the active 280 clubs, whether they just moved here or have lived at Lake Ashton 20 years. Supervisors did not meet in October. The next Board of Supervisors meeting is November 18 at 9 am in the Clubhouse Ballroom. Residents are encouraged to attend CDD meetings to get first hand information on what's going on in the community, projects that are being considered, and issues that are being discussed. Visit lakeashtoncdd.com to view the agenda packets which are posted 1 week prior to the meeting. Residents can contact me via email at cwells@lakeashtoncdd.com with any questions regarding the approved fiscal year 2025 budget or how to access information regarding CDD agendas, meeting minutes and more. Supervisors and Staff want Residents to be informed regarding what is going on in their community. We may not experience Autumn with its falling leaves of red, yellow, and gold, but we look forward to (in anticipation) cooler temperatures. Here at Lake Ashton, we will continue to welcome back our resident snowbirds. Some Lake Ashton residents will observe All Saints Day, Diwali, or other religious and cultural holidays; many will celebrate Thanksgiving, and honor military veterans who have served in the US Armed Forces, paying tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of veterans through ceremonies, parades, and observances nationwide on Veterans Day, and hopefully all will exercise their right to vote in this presidential election year. While both the Clubhouse and the HFC have hosted a Community Potluck throughout this year, alternating locations every other month, the HFC will have a 'Thanksgiving' potluck, reminiscent of years' past, providing the turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Tickets will be sold at the HFC. The United States Marine Corp celebrates its birthday in November as a day to honor the bravery, dedication, and service of Marines past and present. There are also other notable events such as national Alzheimer’s and Diabetes awareness month, and 'Cyber' Monday and Black Friday appealing to the bargain hunters in all of us, and in keeping with the Thanksgiving theme, we appreciate 'Giving Tuesday' as a way to give back to others, and finally, much to the dismay of many, Daylight Saving Time turns back the clock. November is indeed a month filled with activities and events galore here at Lake Ashton. The new resident orientation takes place on Friday, November 1, and Lake Ashton’s LAVA Auxiliary will host its’ annual USO dance on November 8. The LA IICDD Board of Supervisors meeting also takes place on Thursday, November 14. I would like to thank Lake Ashton’s Marsha Bishop, volunteer extraordinaire, who assisted the HFC team with a smooth and efficient RFID implementation. A gentle reminder: if you have not registered your automobile and received an RFID decal, please do so before December 31, because effective in January 2025 you will not be able to use your clicker to enter through the resident gate. The HFC will celebrate with a Holiday dance on December 6, and close out the year with our New Years Eve gala. A great deal has happened and changed at Lake Ashton’s Health & Fitness Center in 2024, and although we will reflect on the past, we look forward to the new year in 2025. 10

GENERAL ELECTION NOVEMBER 5 The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5 and all Polk County registered voters who live in Lake Ashton will vote in the Clubhouse Ballroom from 7 am – 7 pm. Please note there will be no movie showings on this day. In addition to the presidential candidates and various amendments, Lake Ashton residents living in Lake Wales will be voting to fill one seat for election on the LACDD Board of Supervisors. Lake Ashton residents living in Winter Haven will be voting to fill one seat up for election on the LAIICDD Board of Supervisors. To find out who the candidates are that are running for election, visit the Polk County Supervisor of Elections website at polkelections.com. Any questions regarding the General Election should be directed to the Polk County Supervisor of Elections at 863.534.5888. HAVE VISITORS? November is a traditional time for residents to host family and friends. Remember, when you see a visiting grandchild, they are guests of your neighbors so please extend every courtesy possible. Residents: please be tolerant of extra activity at the pool and other amenities. Those hosting family should remind them to be considerate of residents in this 55 and older community. It is helpful if a resident accompanies their guests at any of the amenities, but is not required. Anyone using amenities at the Clubhouse or HFC should have a Lake Ashton Resident Photo ID Card or Facilities Guest Pass. All guests can be registered at either Activities Desk during business hours. Residents can call security (number on page 3) to register their guests after hours. Renters must have a copy of their fully executed rental agreement. Renters that have a lease agreement of less than 90 days will be treated as guests, according to the Joint Amenity Facilities Policies posted on lakeashtoncdd.com or lakeashton2cdd.com. Visit 12 the Clubhouse Activities Office to get your resident amenity access card (which also serves as your Resident Photo ID Card) made during the published hours for distribution or by appointment. Bring a driver's license with your Lake Ashton address on it, or the warranty deed for your home. SECURITY TRANSITION UPDATE Staff at the Clubhouse and Health and Fitness Center (HFC) have been busy juggling normal day to day tasks and distribution of RFID tags and Amenity Access cards to over 3,000 residents. To put in perspective there are a total of five staff members among the two locations to accomplish this enormous task. We appreciate residents' patience during this time and are grateful for the encouraging words received by residents. The initial distribution period ends on November 8 for RFID tags at the HFC for Winter Haven residents and RFID tags/Amenity Access Cards at the Clubhouse for Lake Wales Residents. If you missed this deadline please stay tuned to email blasts to find out when you can come in to get your credentials. Winter Haven residents will come to the Clubhouse starting November 21 to receive their Amenity Access Cards. Be ready to take a picture and complete another application (top portion only) to receive your Amenity Access Card. Each household will receive up to two (2) cards per household (one per resident) and will have to pay $10 per card for any additional cards. A schedule will be released soon via email to let everyone know when their street can come to the Clubhouse to get their Amenity Access Card(s). Once Winter Haven Residents have received their Amenity Access Cards, staff at the Clubhouse and HFC will release a schedule for residents who missed the initial distribution to come to the Clubhouse and/or HFC to receive their Amenity Access Cards and RFID tags. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this transition.

FOOD DRI VE NOV. 1 - 1 5 Food donations for the Mission of Winter Haven and the Lake Wales Care Center will be collected from November 1 - 15. Drop off donations to the Clubhouse Ballroom Kitchen, Monday through Friday from 9 am to noon. Let's help our surrounding neighbors in need this holiday season. GIVING TUESDAY DEC. 3 There is so much to be thankful for and so many blessings to count! In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, consider giving to the many organizations supported by Lake Ashton Clubs, as identified in this edition of the LA Times. Giving doesn't always involve money or tangible items. The gift of time is most often the most valuable. LA HANDS 4 HOPE HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE By Nancy Rudy & Sophia Brennan We have much to be grateful for, especially over these last few weeks. Others have not been as fortunate. LA Hands 4 Hope offers assistance to children and families in Polk County who otherwise may be overwhelmed, overlooked and vulnerable to poverty. For the past four years, LA Hands 4 Hope has sponsored toy drives to help needy families during the holiday season. Last year we donated over 500 toys to the Sheriff’s Department to be distributed to children in Polk County, including children whose parents are incarcerated or in rehab. We are once again collecting toys for the Sheriff’s Department and other entities around Polk County. We want to help make the holidays special for children. We at Lake Ashton can help by dropping off new toys, only at the Clubhouse beginning Nov. 1st. through Dec. 12th. Toys are to be new, and unwrapped for ages infant through 18. Located in the Clubhouse Ballroom will be a tree and a special drop off station for all donations. Assisting LA Hands 4 Hope is the perfect way to help make the holidays merry and bright for children. Please help! For additional information or monetary donations please contact Debby Landgrebe 863-268-8192. Thank you. JACK DAVENPORT DEDICAT ION The Clubhouse Fitness Center was ded i ca t ed to Jack Davenpor t on September 26, 2024. Pictured, Betty Davenport and family chose the perfect spot near Jack's favorite machine, the recumbent stepper. Soon a picture will be added to this location to complete the dedication. We hope that fond memories and stories about Jack carry on for years to come. When you see the plaque and picture in the Fitness Center our hope is that you remember Jack's infectious smile and remember all the great things he did for Lake Ashton. 16

Lake Ashton is overflowing with talented residents. The Clubhouse is lucky to have a new piece of art adorning the Lobby. Resident Lynn Shelton created the lovely piece of artwork pictured to celebrate Fall. When you see Lynn be sure to say thank you for sharing her talent with all of us. She used a variety of mediums to complete this sculpture including the following: A scavenged metal base with post, a large floral bucket, two wire waste baskets, a styrofoam wig head, pool noodles, a package of tissue paper, lots of Mod Podge, fat yarn and paint. We are lucky to have residents that love to share their amazing talents with the community. Pictured, Pam Klawinski works on a wreath that will soon adorn the front entrance to the Clubhouse. Stop by the week of Thanksgiving to take a look at her amazing talents. Thank you to the following volunteers that have helped with distribution of RFID tags and Amenity Access Cards. Things would not have run so smoothly without your help: Gary Bishop, Marsha Bishop, Mike Costello, Monty and Doña Formby, Ernie Harben, David Harrison, Peggy Hitchcock, Brenda Jackson, Debby and Don Landgrebe, Judy Morgan, Brenda and Jack Van Sickle, Carolyn Ulrich, Valerie and Dennis Yenor. BACK ON THE TRAI LS AGAIN! Resident David Fix is back on the trails again. It is safe to say it is in his blood now. With just under 100 days until his thru hike start date, David is hiking the trail in sections any chance he gets as practice. At the time of writing this he was off the trails for 24 hours and already has his next hike planned for November 20-23 to finish the state of Georgia. Pictured below he is in Blood Mountain Shelter which is the highest point of the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail (AT) at 4,442 feet. When you see David in the Community be sure to wish him luck and stick around to hear all of his amazing stories. You will not be sorry. Stay tuned for more from David on the AT! CLUBHOUSE WALL OF ART Shelley and Larry Brodka have been working hard to keep the Clubhouse hallway decorated with beautiful artwork from throughout the community. In the month of October card makers adorned the walls with their beautiful creations. In months past, there have been photographs from many talented residents. We know there is a plethora of talent in Lake Ashton, professional and amateur, and we would like to highlight it all: pictures, scrapbooking, painting, quilting, woodworking, and more! If you create it we want to show it off. Email Christine at cwells@lakeashtoncdd.com or Shelley and Larry Brodka at shelleyb615@gmail.com 17

Thank You For Your Service All residents are invited to honor those who served at the annual LAVA Veterans Day ceremony that will be held on Monday, November 11 at 9 am at the Veterans Memorial. Quilts of Valor for Lake Ashton Veterans The Creative Quilters and other quilters in Lake Ashton have volunteered to make wonderful Quilts of Valor that will be awarded to 15 veterans in Lake Ashton on November 20 at the LAVA meeting. We are looking for nominations from the LA community for this presentation. The first 15 veterans nominated will be awarded a QOV at this event. However, there will be additional QOV presentation scheduled in the future. What is a Quilt of Valor? A Quilt of Valor® (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is made by quilting volunteers in local communities throughout the U.S. It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war and has served in the U.S. Military. The Quilt says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” In 2003, Catherine Roberts, the QOV Founder, created the concept that underpins the QOV mission. Over the past 20 years there have been close to 400,000 QOF quilts awarded to those who have served our wonderful country. The QOV Mission The Quilts of Valor® Foundation and many quilters around the U.S. appreciate the service and sacrifice of those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces and protect our freedoms. The focus is on those most in need of comfort and healing first; those who need to know their sacrifice is acknowledged, those who need the affirmation of a hug, and those who never heard the words “Welcome Home.” To nominate a veteran, please contact Carolyn Bluhm, 719.510.1055 or CHBluhm@outlook.com. Special thanks to LAVA, Creative Quilters, other quilters in Lake Ashton and the LAVA Auxiliary for all their support for making this program a success. Photo by Alex Fuertes

Kimberly Stewart Horan, pictured bottom left with Karen VanKirk, was the guest speaker at the breakfast. Join Team Sam for the annual Alzheimer's Walk on November 4. Meet in the Pro Shop parking lot at 8:45 am with walk kick-off at 9 sharp. It is not important how far you walk, just your commitment to walk at all supports this truly worthwhile cause. For those of you who cannot participate, donations are truly welcomed. All checks should be payable to Alzheimer's Association. No amount is too small. We have all been touched in some way by Alzheimer's and believe a cure is out there with our continued support! Email punturerij@gmail.com if you would like to participate. We currently have one open seat immediately due to a resignation and another seat whose term is set to expire in February 2025.This presents a valuable opportunity for community members to actively participate in shaping the future of our neighborhood and to ensure that our community remains the "paradise" we all cherish. We are specifically looking for the following volunteers: 1. Nominating Committee Chair: This individual will play a crucial role in assisting potential Board candidates with the nomination process and will facilitate the presentation of their qualifications to both the Board and the membership. 2. Board Volunteers: We have two seats available: one for a three-year term and one to complete the term of the resigning director, expiring in 2027. Please do not be concerned if you lack prior Board experience; we are here to support you. What we value most are logical thinkers, individuals with fresh ideas, a willingness to learn about our community, and a genuine desire to assist fellow residents in maintaining Lake Ashton as an exceptional community. If you are interested in either of these or would like to learn more, contact Brenda Jackson at admin@lakeashtonhoa.org. We will send you necessary forms and information to assist you and will inform the Board of your interest. If you would rather take it slow while learning more about LA and the HOA, you may want to consider joining our ARC Committee. As a member, you can assist in approving neighbor requests to enhance the exterior of their homes. To learn more about ARC or to volunteer, contact ARC Chair Mike Wilson at arc@lakeashtonhoa.org or ARC Director Harold Jackson at vp2@lakeashtonhoa.org 22 If you have a keen eye for detail, you might be interested in joining the Compliance Committee to help fellow members understand our governing documents and find ways to make exterior enhancements while remaining compliant. To learn more about compliance or volunteer, contact Compliance Director Dee Mayne at compliance@lakeashtonhoa.org. You may also call 863.325.0065 and choose the appropriate option to reach the right party. We all share the desire to see LA thrive and maintain the standards that attracted us to live here. Join us in being an active participant in driving change and improvements, all while meeting neighbors and enjoying being an integral part of our community. Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve our community. LA II (WH) HOA NEWS On September 25, the residents of the Lake Ashton II (WH) HOA approved a new set of Governing Documents for our community. WETLANDS AND CONSERVATION AREAS OF LAKE ASHTON Many of Lake Ashton's wetlands and conservation areas are important to our community in a number of ways. They serve many functions like protect against flooding, improve water quality, and provide a home for threatened and protected species. Wetlands in Lake Ashton clean the storm water that is referred to as “runoff”. After that, this water goes to Lake Ashton. When the water gets to the lake, it will go through the outfall structure, which is on the southwest shore of the lake. After that, the water will go to Peace Creek and then to the Peace River. The Peace River can overflow and flood when it rains a lot. This could cause lakes and ponds to have higher than normal water levels, which will be felt by the residents in Lake Ashton. Our aquatics vendor and Lake Ashton CDD staff work together all the time to make sure that our wetlands are being managed properly. Email Matt Fisher at mfisher@lakeashtoncdd.com with any questions or concerns. Residents are reminded that they should not do any unauthorized maintenance in these areas. PROPER DOG WASTE BAG DISPOSAL There were reports of doggie poop bags in the pond between Dunmore Drive and Tralee Drive. Please be sure to dispose of doggie poop bags in proper trash cans and avoid putting bags in bodies of water or on the curb where they can be swept away into the stormwater system (including the ponds, conservation areas, and lakes). This is an environmental issue and should be taken seriously. 24 SALES OFF ICE PAVERS REMINDER Please do not remove any pavers from the Sales Office parking lot. This is private property and signage is in place advising of such. The owner has said he will follow up on all instances of theft. SAFEGUARD STORM DRAINS Please do not place yard debris and clippings on top or near stormwater inlets (as shown here). This could get into the stormwater system causing damage or clogging the system which could lead to localized flooding. The District, made up of Lake Ashton residents, are responsible for the maintenance of the stormwater system within Lake Ashton so damages come out of the budget which is largely funded by resident assessments. Lets all work together to extend the life of our infrastructure. Scene Around Town Can you spot all of the babies in this picture? They supervised the removal of three fallen trees in this area after Hurricane Milton.

SAFETY NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH (NW) CORNER By Fay Wood, NW Chief Save the Date for the 2025 Police Chiefs Meet & Greet on February 3, 2025! Worth Repeating - Thanks to Law Enforcement Are You a Distracted Driver? Take action to avoid the distraction. Most people know that texting and talking on the phone while driving are dangerous activities. But they aren’t the only things that can distract you while you’re driving. Dashboard infotainment systems, navigation tools and even passengers can easily take your focus off the road. Distracted driving is a deadly problem— thousands of deaths have occurred, according to statistics from National Highway & Traffic. Tips that can help you avoid distractions while driving: • Put it away: Place your phone out of sight to prevent temptation. • Know where you’re going: Set your navigation system before driving. • Pull over: If you must call or text while driving, safely pull off the road and stop. • Ask passengers for help: Ask a passenger to help navigate, make a call or send a message. • Don’t be a distraction yourself: Avoid calling or texting others when you know they are driving. • Use “do not disturb”: Many phones have settings that silence incoming calls and messages while your phone is synced with your car. KNOW THE BASICS— PEDESTRIAN SAFETY 8 Safety Tips for Drivers From National Highway Traffic Safety Administration • Look out for pedestrians everywhere, at all times. • Use extra caution when driving in hard-to-see conditions, such as nighttime or bad weather. • Slow down and be prepared to stop when turning or otherwise entering a crosswalk. 26 • Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and stop well back from the crosswalk to give other vehicles an opportunity to see the crossing pedestrians so they can stop too. • Never pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk. There may be people crossing where you can’t see. • Never drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. • Follow the speed limit, especially around people on the street, in school zones and in neighborhoods where children are present. • Be extra cautious when backing up and look for pedestrians. 8 Walking Safety Tips • Follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals. • Walk on sidewalks whenever they are available. • If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible. • Cross streets at crosswalks or intersections. Look for cars in all directions, including those turning left or right. • If a crosswalk or intersection is not available, locate a well-lit area where you have the best view of traffic. Wait for a gap in traffic that allows enough time to cross safely; continue watching for traffic as you cross. • Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways, or backing up in parking lots. • Avoid alcohol and drugs when walking; they impair your abilities and your judgment. • Embrace walking as a healthy form of transportation - get up, get out and get moving. All vehicles, including golf carts, must obey all stop signs and the 20 mph speed limit throughout Lake Ashton. A person operating a golf cart on public roads or streets who is under 18 years must possess a valid learner’s permit or driver’s license.
