Thank You For Your Service All residents are invited to honor those who served at the annual LAVA Veterans Day ceremony that will be held on Monday, November 11 at 9 am at the Veterans Memorial. Quilts of Valor for Lake Ashton Veterans The Creative Quilters and other quilters in Lake Ashton have volunteered to make wonderful Quilts of Valor that will be awarded to 15 veterans in Lake Ashton on November 20 at the LAVA meeting. We are looking for nominations from the LA community for this presentation. The first 15 veterans nominated will be awarded a QOV at this event. However, there will be additional QOV presentation scheduled in the future. What is a Quilt of Valor? A Quilt of Valor® (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is made by quilting volunteers in local communities throughout the U.S. It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war and has served in the U.S. Military. The Quilt says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” In 2003, Catherine Roberts, the QOV Founder, created the concept that underpins the QOV mission. Over the past 20 years there have been close to 400,000 QOF quilts awarded to those who have served our wonderful country. The QOV Mission The Quilts of Valor® Foundation and many quilters around the U.S. appreciate the service and sacrifice of those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces and protect our freedoms. The focus is on those most in need of comfort and healing first; those who need to know their sacrifice is acknowledged, those who need the affirmation of a hug, and those who never heard the words “Welcome Home.” To nominate a veteran, please contact Carolyn Bluhm, 719.510.1055 or CHBluhm@outlook.com. Special thanks to LAVA, Creative Quilters, other quilters in Lake Ashton and the LAVA Auxiliary for all their support for making this program a success. Photo by Alex Fuertes
