We may not experience Autumn with its falling leaves of red, yellow, and gold, but we look forward to (in anticipation) cooler temperatures. Here at Lake Ashton, we will continue to welcome back our resident snowbirds. Some Lake Ashton residents will observe All Saints Day, Diwali, or other religious and cultural holidays; many will celebrate Thanksgiving, and honor military veterans who have served in the US Armed Forces, paying tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of veterans through ceremonies, parades, and observances nationwide on Veterans Day, and hopefully all will exercise their right to vote in this presidential election year. While both the Clubhouse and the HFC have hosted a Community Potluck throughout this year, alternating locations every other month, the HFC will have a 'Thanksgiving' potluck, reminiscent of years' past, providing the turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Tickets will be sold at the HFC. The United States Marine Corp celebrates its birthday in November as a day to honor the bravery, dedication, and service of Marines past and present. There are also other notable events such as national Alzheimer’s and Diabetes awareness month, and 'Cyber' Monday and Black Friday appealing to the bargain hunters in all of us, and in keeping with the Thanksgiving theme, we appreciate 'Giving Tuesday' as a way to give back to others, and finally, much to the dismay of many, Daylight Saving Time turns back the clock. November is indeed a month filled with activities and events galore here at Lake Ashton. The new resident orientation takes place on Friday, November 1, and Lake Ashton’s LAVA Auxiliary will host its’ annual USO dance on November 8. The LA IICDD Board of Supervisors meeting also takes place on Thursday, November 14. I would like to thank Lake Ashton’s Marsha Bishop, volunteer extraordinaire, who assisted the HFC team with a smooth and efficient RFID implementation. A gentle reminder: if you have not registered your automobile and received an RFID decal, please do so before December 31, because effective in January 2025 you will not be able to use your clicker to enter through the resident gate. The HFC will celebrate with a Holiday dance on December 6, and close out the year with our New Years Eve gala. A great deal has happened and changed at Lake Ashton’s Health & Fitness Center in 2024, and although we will reflect on the past, we look forward to the new year in 2025. 10
