First, please make sure your guests have access to amenities by registering them ahead of time at the Clubhouse (if outside of office hours, please call the guardhouse so the roving patrol can register your guests). All guests, regardless of age, must be registered, but only those 18 or older will be given a pass. Anyone under 18, must always be accompanied by someone over 21 while using the amenities. When your guests leave, please return the guest passes to designated return on the wall outside of the management office. For more information about guest passes, please see Section III of the Joint Amenity Facilities Policy posted on the CDD website. POOL SAFETY REMINDERS When it comes to enjoying the water, smart pool habits are essential for everyone’s safety and enjoyment of the pool. Please be courteous to those around you and keep an eye on little ones. If you’re using one of the umbrellas, please close it before you leave the pool so a sudden storm doesn’t send it flying. • Please follow all posted rules, including those highlighted below: • Please shower before getting into the pool. Bathrooms are located outside the pool gates on the east side of the building (don’t forget to take your guest pass with you so you don’t get locked out of the pool). • Always Have your access/guest card with you. Staff and/or security may ask to see it. • No food or beverages are permitted on the wet deck (i.e. within 4 feet of the pool), or in the water. Glass containers are never permitted inside the pool enclosure. • In consideration of others, and for safety reasons, no horseplay, running or jumping please. • Children still in diapers must wear plastic swim pants over the diaper. • There is no lifeguard on duty. Please stay in the water with anyone who is not a good swimmer. • With some planning, your visit with guests and family can be one of the highlights of your summer, allowing you all to focus on fun and relaxation. 8

2026 PRIMARY ELECTIONS The 2026 Primary Election will be held Tuesday, August 18. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early Voting will be available at sites throughout the county August 8 through 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (not at Lake Ashton). The deadline to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot is August 6 at 5 p.m., and completed mail ballots must be received by the Supervisor of Elections by 7 p.m. on August 18. THE GOOD SAMARITAN RESCUERS By Liz Leigh All of Lake Ashton was notified by the Polk County Sheriff’s department that a lady resident was missing on the evening of Wednesday, July 8, and if anyone had information to contact the Sheriff’s Department. She was last seen on Hogan Lane. Matt Boesel and his family were visiting his dad, Dick Boesel, for a week. They were at the Clubhouse pool and saw the helicopter and realized that something was happening and were told about the missing person. The four of them drove a golf cart and decided to see what was going on and try to help find her. They went for a drive and kept calling her name, and finally found her in a car in a driveway on Strathmore Drive, the same street where they were staying with his dad. She was disoriented, very hot and sweaty. A little later a group of searchers also came by and all ended well. This is an example of how Lake Ashton residents and their families watch out for each other. Matt, Carrie, Ella, and Dax Boesel were Good Samaritans. Let us all continue to be Good Samaritans to each other. LA HANDS 4 HOPE By Debby Landgrebe The last day to bring donations for Inwood Elementary School in Winter Haven is August 4. RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT By Marianne Zak Brenda Van Sickle of Ashton Club Drive has spent many years serving the Lake Ashton community, including 12 years on the Lake Ashton CDD Board of Supervisors, where she currently serves as Chair. Brenda first ran for the Board in 2010 and served two four-year terms before retiring in 2018. In 2022, after encouraging others to consider running, she filed just before the deadline and ultimately ran unopposed. “No one else would run,” she recalls. One of Brenda’s proudest accomplishments has been helping strengthen the relationship between Lake Ashton’s two CDDs. She meets monthly with CDD II Chair Jim Mecsics to discuss ways the East and West sides can work together as one community. That cooperation was evident during Lake Ashton’s recent celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, when activities across the community were coordinated so residents could enjoy the ceremony, golf cart parade, food trucks and dance together. Brenda has also worked to build relationships with the HOAs, City of Lake Wales, police and sheriff’s departments. Her philosophy is simple: “We should have one goal, to make Lake Ashton the best it can be. Just another day in paradise.” Originally from South Carolina, Brenda married her husband, Jack, on May 16, 1981. The couple recently celebrated their 45th anniversary with a Disney cruise to the Caribbean. Together, they have five children and ten grandchildren. A graduate of George Mason University, Brenda spent 20 years teaching special education, including 15 years in Virginia and five at Pinewood Elementary in Eagle Lake. Early in her career, she was given a classroom with four walls and no furniture. She gathered donations, shopped thrift stores and created her own curriculum, teaching students practical life and employment skills. Her guiding belief was that everyone can succeed when given the opportunity. Jack, a 14-year Army veteran who retired from the Department of Defense in 2002, has also embraced public service. He previously served as Mayor of Lake Wales and as a Lake Wales City Commissioner and volunteered with the Lake Ashton HOA. When they aren’t serving their community, Brenda and Jack enjoy traveling, particularly to St. Pete Beach and Fort De Soto. Brenda is an avid seashell collector, a hobby that began during her childhood in Okinawa, Japan. Her home is filled with her exotic seashell finds. Some of her favorite seashells are the Florida fighting conch, tulip shells, and whelk shells from the Gulf Coast. She has donated many of her shells to decorate at LA events. Her lighthouse collection is another hobby of hers. She has a 5' tall replica of a lighthouse from St. Augustine, Florida, and another 3' lighthouse in her flower bed. She displays about 20 lighthouses throughout her home. In November, Brenda will step down following her 12th year as a CDD Board member. Her years of serving the residents of Lake Ashton have given her valuable knowledge to share with those who come after her. Now, she will have more time to spend with her little black miniature poodle Buddy, whom she adopted from her late mother. Brenda enjoys the pool and regularly walks there to enjoy the water and the sunshine. You may see her relaxing in the pool with her red hat on, where you can greet her with a smile and thank her for her service in making Lake Ashton "Simply the Best." 14

L.A. LOOKS Wildlife Corner Photo & Article By Barbara Ann Comer Osprey (found on all continents except Antarctica) are year-round, nesting residents of Lake Ashton. Formerly known as the Fish Hawk they nest near fresh or salt water and eat mainly fish. It is always a thrill to see one of these large brown and white birds hovering over water and then plunging feet first into the water and rising up with a fish firmly and aerodynamically grasped in their large talons with the head forward. Osprey can easily be mistaken for Bald Eagles because of their coloration and large size. However a Bald Eagle does not have a white breast and undersides. When perched an Osprey will often appear more horizontal while the Bald Eagle tends to hold a more vertical posture. In flight, their long narrow wings are bent back at the wrist reminiscent of a gull. The bulky nests in Florida are often laden with Spanish Moss and they tend to typically raise two young. As with most birds in Florida, they tend to nest earlier than their northern counterparts. LA (LW) HOA CORNER By Deanne Mayne The Focus 2030 report that Iris Realmuto presented at the June HOA meeting revealed that many residents are confused about which entity is responsible for various tasks. Here is an explanation of what the HOA does. The HOA is responsible for checking on residents' homes (outside only) and property within their boundaries. ARC (Architectural Review Committee) is part of the HOA and is concerned with any 16 changes that residents are making to their homes and landscaping. These changes can be related to paint colors for homes, window replacements, water conditioners and new landscaping beds to name a few. Requests for these are done through ARCTracker (arctracker.com/la) and are reviewed by ARC to allow the changes or deny the requests if they do not meet standards in the CC&Rs or Guidelines. HOA Compliance is responsible for notifying residents that some area of their property is in need of improvement. Compliance has focused on mailboxes, driveways, and trash bins over the past year. Damage from the February freeze will also be addressed starting in August. Compliance also does estoppel inspections when homes are within 30 days of closing and also checks the ages of new residents to make sure Lake Ashton remains a 55 and over community. Assessments for the HOA are determined by the board annually and are currently $55 per year. The assessment pays for the management company and legal fees and also pays to maintain properties that are in foreclosure. The HOA board consists of volunteers who serve three-year terms as directors and currently has five members. The ARC committee and Compliance committee hold monthly office hours the third Wednesday of each month. Plans are underway for several new committees - stay tuned for details. And lastly, we are always looking for volunteers to help with all committees. CLUBHOUSE ART WALL By Shelley Brodka We have some amazing artists, photographers, glass and craft designers in Lake Ashton, andeach month a new artist’s work is featured and is hung in the Clubhouse for a month for you to enjoy. There are openings for the months of March through December 2029, and beyond. LAII (WH) HOA/ARC CORNER By Connie Strassberg It is hot out there! The snowbirds are gone; the year-round residents are either taking vacations or finding ways to mitigate the heat. Stay indoors where it is air-conditioned and drink plenty of fluids. Make sure your pets have enough to drink too and that their paws are protected when they are walking on hot surfaces. Te next regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting will be on Thursday August 6 at 1 pm in the HFC Community Center. The HOA has five flyer slots at the top of the flyer board at the Health and Fitness Center (HFC). They currently contain Email Contact Authorization forms and various information flyers about the HOA and the ARC. We will soon add flyers about Compliance. To receive email notifications from the LAII HOA, residents must submit a completed Email Authorization Form to the management company, Stambaugh, at 863-324-5100. Forms can be picked up from the flyer slots, completed, and either mailed to Stambaugh or placed in the white HOA mailbox at the HFC. Without authorization, privacy laws prevent us from contacting you. The LAII HOA website provides access to announcements, posted documents, the directory, calendar, and online dues payment. The website is https://stambaugh.cincwebaxis.com. First-time users should click REGISTER in the upper-right corner to create an account. Agendas for meetings will be emailed to all who are signed up to receive email or can be found in our flyer spots after they have been finalized. SAFETY DRIVE SAFELY When approaching a stop sign: Come to a complete stop. Yield to vehicles already in the intersection.Yield to vehicles approaching closely enough to create an immediate hazard. Most Polk County Schools start back August 12. Please use caution when traveling CR 653 during school opening and closing times. Remember, there may be longer than normal wait times in these areas during drop off and pick up times. At left is a reminder of how Florida traffic laws apply to stopping when a bus is displaying a stop signal. GOLF CART REMINDER If you’re letting the kids take the golf cart out for a spin, please remember that anyone between the age of 15 and 18 must hold a valid driver's license or learner’s permit to drive a golf cart on public roads in Florida. For night driving, the golf cart must be equipped with working head lights, turn signals, brake lights and a windshield. Before they leave the house, please be sure everyone is secure (with their own seat) and anyone under 5 should be in a designated child safety seat. And, of course, remind them not to exceed the speed limit, use turn signals and stop at stop signs. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH (NW) CORNER By Fay Wood, NW Chief KNOW WHO HAS THE RIGHT-OF-WAY Intersections can be one of the most dangerous places on the roadway, especially when drivers fail to yield the right-of-way or misunderstand who should go first. Florida Statutes 316.123 and 316.079 help establish the rules that keep traffic moving safely and reduce the risk of crashes. 18 At a four-way stop: The first vehicle to stop should proceed first. If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the driver on the left must yield to the driver on the right . When approaching a yield sign: Slow down and be prepared to stop. Yield to traffic already on the roadway. Enter only when it is safe to do so. Failing to yield the right-of-way can lead to serious crashes, injuries, and preventable tragedies. Taking a few extra seconds to determine who has the right-of-way can make all the difference. Be patient. Be courteous. Be safe. WILDLIFE SAFETY Living alongside Florida’s wildlife is part of the state's natural charm, but it requires healthy boundaries. It’s important to treat every body of fresh water as a potential habitat for alligators or snakes, meaning family members should always maintain a safe distance from the water's edge. Never feed wild animals, especially alligators —as it is illegal, disrupts their natural instincts, and poses serious safety risks to neighborhood residents. Keeping pets on short leashes, keeping trash bins properly secured, and admiring the local fauna from a safe distance will help ensure your Florida family vacation is both memorable and safe.

STORM PREPAREDNESS AND LIGHTNING SAFETY Lake Ashton has a lightning detection system to alert golfers to get off the course, and notify all residents to go indoors when the potential for a lightning strike is in the area. When the system senses a lightning danger, a high-pitched siren sounds and strobe lights turn on and stay on until the danger passes. These strobe lights are at various locations including on top of the Clubhouse, the backside of the HFC and the boat dock on Lake Ashton. A low-pitched horn will sound all clear and the strobe lights will turn off when lightning has passed. Lightning strikes may occur far away from a visible storm. Get out of pools, do not stand under trees, and get indoors when the siren sounds. Golf carts are not safe from lightning. Hurricane season runs through November 30. All residents who will be spending the summer months in Florida should prepare for severe weather. CLUBS CLUBHOUSE AND HFC ROOM RESERVATIONS Clubs, groups, and organizations with standing weekly or monthly reservations will have their reservations automatically renewed for 2027. In August, an email will be sent to each facilitator to confirm the reservation details. Please reply to that email if there are any changes. New Clubhouse and HFC reservations will be accepted starting on August 18, 2026. Please email Caroline at clane@calmfla.com or Krystle at kfunk@lakeashton2cdd.com for the reservation form. Please note: weekly or monthly standing reservations are for registered club, group, or organizations. Please see the Reserving Facilities portion of the Joint Amenities Policy below. VII. RESERVING FACILITIES Amenity Facilities are available on a “first come, first served basis”, and subject to applicable fees or rates as set by the appropriate District. Requests to reserve facilities should be submitted through the Staff at the appropriate Amenity Facility. With the exception of designated Open Play (as defined in Section X – Amenity Policies – General Usage), reservations may be available for up to two (2) hour increments for all facilities listed in this policy, with the exception of the Clubhouse Ballroom and HFC Community Center. These can be reserved for periods up to four (4) hours. Longer time increments may be approved by the Amenity Manager. Amenities that have not been reserved are available for use on a “first come, first served” basis. There are no personal standing weekly reservations allowed for the Amenity Facilities listed in the reservation policies. Lake Ashton activities taking place within the Amenity Facilities should be open to all Lake Ashton residents and not be labeled as “private”. If the room is not reserved by a club, group or organization, tables may be individually reserved, with the understanding that the Amenity 26 Manager may move or cancel reservations, if required, up to 48 hours prior to the reservation time. Clubs, Groups, and Organizations may make “standing” reservations. These will be reviewed semi-annually by the Amenity Manager. (Refer to section IX on what constitutes a club.) If a standing reservation made by a registered Club, Group, or Organization is cancelled or unused more than three (3) times in a six (6)-month period then the reservation may be revoked by the Amenity Manager. This does not apply to a Club, Group, or Organization going on a planned hiatus previously arranged with Staff. Reservations for commercial or profit-making purposes will be charged a fee in accordance with LA CDD and LAII CDD Chapter III: Rules for Amenities Rates, (respectively). The Amenity Manager can reschedule any reservation if requested by the District. The Clubhouse or HFC must be notified if a scheduled reservation cannot be kept so the slot may be re-assigned. Reservations will be held for fifteen (15) minutes past the scheduled start time, after which the Amenity Manager may re-assign the reservation. LET’S CELEBRATE TOGETHER! LAKE ASHTON FRIENDS OF MEALS ON WHEELS By Marcia Santino What was your daily life like 25 years ago? Were you still working? Semi-retired? Many current Meals on Wheels recipients were already nearing retirement or perhaps already in their “Golden Years”. They probably weren’t concerned about 25 years in the future. None of us were. Yet, here we are. Current Meals on Wheels recipients all have one thing in common: they are no longer able to shop and prepare their own meals. Having a nutritious, balanced meal delivered each day may be the difference between independent living or not. As we observe and remember the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, also stop and considered this: No one has a crystal ball as to what lies ahead. 25 years is a long time, but it goes by quickly. Who among us will be the future recipients of Meals on Wheels? Please, do what you can to support this essential resource in our community. Consider becoming a volunteer. Give generously. It may be you that finds yourself in need of their essential services one day. This month we're highlighting moringa, often called the Miracle Tree for its exceptional nutrition, edible leaves, and drought tolerance; basil, prized for its sweet aroma, fresh flavor, and appeal to pollinators; and marigolds, whose cheerful blooms attract beneficial pollinators while helping deter some common garden pests. Garden members receive our monthly Community Garden Journal, featuring these plants, recipes, gardening tips, and fascinating garden creatures. LA PICKLEBALL By Dennis Santino Lake Ashton Pickleball Association wants to thank everyone involved in the 250th Anniversary celebration of our country. We all moved to Lake Ashton because we wanted to live in a 55 plus active community and enjoy our later years. One of the best ways to do that is to become a member of LAPA. As the second largest club in the community, and with one of the lowest membership fees, there is no better way to stay active meet new friends and keep in shape. The fee is only $15 a year and registration forms can be found at the HFC. Our members enjoyed the members mixed tournament in July. The feedback from the format used 28 for this mixer was overwhelmingly positive. The players who made it to the finals were JP Thomas, Sue Morris, Lisa Reed and Dennis Santino. LAPA members also re p re s e n t e d o u r community at the Sun ’N Lake pickleball tournament. This format was skill level with no age restriction. Our team of Lisa Reed, Mark McDuff, Deb Knecht and John Savala won the bronze medal beating teams in their twenties. Sheryl Hemingway (not pictured) also won a bronze medal in her division. We will finish the topic of organization and then also discuss the topic of historical context. It sounds boring at first glance, but oh, there is so much interesting information to find to help us understand the times in which our ancestors lived and how those times influenced their lives for the good and the bad. ONEBLOOD ROLL OF HONOR Thank you to everyone who participated in the Blood Drive June 29. OneBlood was able to collect 18 units of blood from 20 participants, potentially impacting 54 lives in our local community.Each blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives, making every donor’s contribution incredibly meaningful. LAMGA By David Kubissa General Manager Kevin Baker, pictured here balancing his many ambitions for the golf and hospitality experiences at Lake Ashton, has been on the job a little more than a year. In that short time, his ideas and energy have made a noticeable impact on the golf course, in the Eagle’s Nest, and among the golf club membership. His vast experience – more than 30 years – as both a PGA of America professional and a Florida golf resort manager has been an asset to LAMGA and other Lake Ashton golf groups. Here in Kevin’s own words is more about his background, management style, and vision for the future. What and when was your first job in the golf course / hospitality business? My first job in the golf industry was as the weekend driving range picker at Fargo Country Club (N.D.). I was 15 years old, and it didn't take long for me to realize that I enjoyed being around golf and the people who play it. What and who inspired you to pursue this kind of career? Growing up, I loved playing competitive junior golf. My biggest inspiration came while working as a golf shop assistant under a PGA professional who spent the summers in Fargo and the winters in Florida. As a teenager, I thought that was the perfect career — working around golf year-round while enjoying the best weather in both places. You have shown yourself to be a hands-on general manager. How do you take time for yourself? I've always believed that leadership means being willing to jump in wherever you're needed. Whether it's helping in the golf operation, the restaurant, or supporting another department, I enjoy working 37 alongside our team. I often remind our staff that no job is beneath any of us, We're all here to help each other and provide the best experience for members and guests. Outside of work, I enjoy short trips and spending time with my wife, Cheryl, and our daughter, Hayley. What is your vision for the Eagle’s Nest? To make it a place where residents know they'll receive quality food, friendly and consistent service, and a welcoming atmosphere every time they visit. We want to continue offering outstanding lunches while creating fun, themed evening events that bring people together. We'll keep enhancing the menu, listening to member feedback, and finding new ways to make the Eagle’s Nest a favorite gathering place. What is your vision for Lake Ashton golf? To continue building a club that residents are proud to call their own. T Utting (right) made a Hole-in-One on #8 on the East Course on July 17, 2026. The LALGA Summer Tournament set sail without a wave! This year's theme, Cruising Down the Fairway, brought two days of fun, friendship, and great golf. The festivities began with a Las Vegas-style golf game often featured on cruise ships. Each golfer played her own ball, but after every hole, the roll of a die determined which player's score counted for the team. This exciting format continued through all 18 holes, keeping everyone guessing until the very end. Along the course, golfers also "visited" popular cruise destinations—including Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, and more—where they learned interesting facts about each port of call. Day two featured a traditional scramble, followed by a delicious luncheon of chicken salad on a croissant, fresh fruit salad, tossed salad, chips, Italian ice, and a beverage. The specialty drink of the day, a refreshing piña colada, added the perfect tropical touch. The beautifully decorated tables featured charming sea-themed centerpieces, creating the feeling of a true cruise vacation. As a special keepsake, every participant received an adorable Cruise Life T-shirt.
