Try out a new outdoor activity if you haven't already. There are many outdoor activities available such as Tennis, Bocce, Shuffleboard, outdoor life-size chess, horseshoes, corn hole, outdoor pool, and pickleball. While enjoying the outdoors be sure to stop and "smell the flowers". There is not a day that goes by that I don't hear someone say how lucky they are to live in such a wonderful community, and they are right! Lake Ashton is amazing. There are many annual Resident activities in March and some special CDD Activities Parties. Don't miss these events outlined in the events section of the newsletter. Don't miss out on the Annual Senior Expo on April 1 and Lake Ashton's Annual Car Show on March 22. Only a few Entertainment Series shows remain and a pizza party and Ladies Day Luncheon are on the horizon! Be on the lookout for ticket on-sale dates in the April LA Times. On February 23, LACDD (LW) Supervisors met to discuss Community matters. Several residents were in attendance as Supervisors discussed solar streetlights versus staying with TECO. Ultimately the Board decided to renew the contract with TECO for another year. This will allow for further investigation into options for solar streetlights and time for the two boards to talk about options to consider, jointly. The Board approved the purchase of two TVs to be installed in the Ballroom and two TVs to be installed in the Restaurant, for resident and CDD activities and events. A wrap up of actions taken was sent via email. A joint meeting will be held on March 19 at the HFC. Budget planning for Fiscal Year 2027 (October 1, 2026 - September 30, 2026) begins at the Budget Workshop on March 16 at 9 am. Residents are encouraged to attend so they are part of the process from the beginning. While being in the digital age and having access to information at your finger tips is wonderful, residents should attend meetings (virtually or in person) to hear information first hand. Often times information disseminated via social media, or passed along during conversations may not be entirely factual. It is always best to get the information first hand. If you are unable to attend the meetings the summary minutes are posted on lakeashtoncdd.com. Residents that have questions can reach out to any Supervisor (contact info on this page) or myself at cwells@lakeashtoncdd.com. REMINDER TO RESIDENTS AND GUESTS: To maintain a clean and welcoming environment for all residents, no flyers, business cards, advertisements, promotional materials, or similar items may be posted, displayed, or left at any Lake Ashton amenities. This includes clubhouses, pools, fitness centers, bulletin boards, tables, 8

This month is perfect for those looking to embrace a more active lifestyle, such as tennis or pickleball. There are leisurely groups, beginners’ lessons and competition play on the HFCs tennis and pickleball courts. Be sure to stop by and pick up the HFC monthly calendar which lists the pickleball schedule. The HFC also offers a wide selection of fitness classes to suit various interests and skill levels. Not into standard exercise programs, how about line-dancing, which is a form of exercise? There is line-dancing five days a week at the HFC from beginners to advanced. If structured classes are not your preference, simply taking a walk outdoors is a fantastic way to begin your journey toward healthier living. Lake Ashton offers a beautiful tropical setting and a welcoming environment making it easy to start a new routine and enjoy all that the season has to offer, so whether you prefer group activities or individual pursuits, there is something for everyone. The HFC has a range of exciting activities and events planned in the month of March for LA residents. Be sure to mark your calendar for the next LA II CDD Board of Supervisors meeting. Stay active, connect with others, and be open to new activities. This will lead to a positive outlook on life. 10

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT By Marianne Zak Meet David Fix of Turnberry Lane, formerly from Lancaster, PA. David has twin daughters, a grandson and a granddaughter. He was a mail carrier for the Post Office for 29 years, retiring in 2015. He met Greg Neuman on his route and they have been together for 26 years. They married in 2014 and moved to Nalcrest in FL in 2016. In 2020 they moved to Lake Ashton. Prior to being a mail carrier, David was a Petty Officer Second Class in the Navy. After eight years of service, from 1977 to 1985, he then joined the National Guard until 1994. He organizes all military reunions for Navy Ships, Marine Corps and Army groups. He plans banquets, tours, buses, hotels and 100% of the reunion venues. David established three 5K charity events and designed the three medals given to the participants: Victory Ridge Academy, Hands 4 Hope and the Lake Wales Care Center together receiving over $10,000. He owns "Reunion Planners Plus LLC" which provides medals, challenge coins, and reunion pins for military reunion groups. Three medals that he designed are displayed on the wall by the Lake Ashton library. In 2023, David established “$1.00 Trivia" held each Sunday at 7 pm. He has 6 devoted volunteers. Trivia just surpassed $20,000 in prize money to LA trivia players! On March 23rd, David, an Eagle Scout, will present at Monday coffee, "If I Knew Then What I Know Now", regarding his experience hiking 750 miles on the 2,000 mile Appalachian Trail. He may share his frightening ordeal with a black bear coming within ten feet of the camp entrance and the 45 minute standoff with the determined bear. This spring, David will hike another 752 miles, helping to achieve his bucket list. David and Greg enjoy volunteering for Meals on Wheels, cruising, and running races at Disney, especially the "Dopey Challenge", a 48.6 mile four day marathon event. David is an example of determination, giving to his community, to charity and striving to make Lake Ashton "Simply the Best". DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF SERVICE FOOD DRIVE The Lake Ashton Black Heritage Club commemorated the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with a Day of Service Food Drive on January 19. Many braved the cold and showed up steadily throughout the 4hour event, donating 1630 pounds of nonperishable food and $140 in monetary contributions. Doug Reddick of the Lake Wales Care Center expressed his appreciation and sent a heartfelt message saying, “Thank you so much for supporting the Lake Wales Care Center and giving back to your community.” The LABHC sends sincere thanks and gratitude to the Lake Ashton community for their support and generosity. 13

MAKE YOUR WEBSITES WORK FOR YOU ! Residents who would like to receive electronic news blasts from the Clubhouse and Health & Fitness Center (HFC), Eagle’s Nest, and/or the Pro Shop can easily sign up by scanning the QR code at left. These email updates are a great way to stay informed about events, schedule changes, special programs, and important announcements. If you’re searching for Community Development District (CDD) board meeting dates, agendas, minutes, or Supervisor contact information, both CDD websites are readily accessible. Simply scan the top left QR code to visit http:// www.lakeashtoncdd.com and the bottom left QR code to visit http:// www.lakeashton2cdd.org. NEW GUIDELINES AND SUBMISSION PROCESS FOR ARTICLES & EMAIL BLASTS As community participation continues to grow, we are pleased to see so many residents, clubs, and organizations contributing content for the newsletter and requesting community email announcements. To help ensure fairness, consistency, and accuracy, updated guidelines and a new submission process are being implemented. All newsletter submissions are edited as needed to fit available space and to maintain consistency, clarity, and compliance with district communication policies. To maintain a cohesive publication design, resident-created layouts such as PowerPoint slides, posters, flyers, or custom artwork cannot be published directly. When this type of content is submitted, the information may be converted into a standard article format or recreated by staff in a style consistent with the newsletter’s design standards. 16 To improve organization and ensure no requests are missed, a new submission system allowing residents and groups to submit newsletter articles and requests for email blasts will be available March 2 on https://www.lakeashtoncdd.com. These forms create a centralized tracking log that allows multiple staff members to verify submissions and confirm they are processed appropriately. Using the website forms will be the preferred method for all future submissions and email blast requests. Revised submission guidelines will be posted on the website to provide clear expectations regarding word limits, formatting, deadlines, and content requirements. These updates are intended to create a transparent and consistent process that serves the entire community. We appreciate the time and effort residents put into sharing information and helping keep neighbors informed. Thank you for your cooperation as we continue improving communication processes for everyone. For questions about submissions or the new forms, please contact valerie@lakeashtoncdd.com. ELECTRONIC STORAGE DEVICE COLLECTION Over the past two years, some of you may have seen Heidi & Sandy White around the neighborhood with various black and yellow Labradors. Some of you may remember them with their Great Pyrenees Leo. After Leo passed, they became volunteers with Dogs, Inc (dogsinc.org), an organization that breeds, raises, and trains guide, service, skilled companion, and therapy dogs. Heidi & Sandy currently volunteer as puppysitters for puppies in the program, but they began as puppy raisers of Jimbo from July 2023 to July 2024. Jimbo completed training to become a guide dog; however, due to his energy, he was transferred to Jordan Detection K9 in Indiana, where he was trained in Electronic Storage Detection (ESD). Jimbo was renamed Detective K9 Zero and paired with his handler Detective Bobby Barrett. You can follow Detective K9 Zero on Facebook. Zero can detect hidden devices like cell phones, hard drives, and USB drives even when concealed inside walls, in furniture, and underwater. ESD canines are trained to sniff out specific chemical compounds, i.e. triphenylphosphine oxide. They help law enforcement find critical evidence in crimes, including child exploitation, human trafficking, pornography, homicides, and money laundering. Their duties also include de-escalation, workplace therapy, facilitating victim disclosures, and emotional support for victims. For Detective K9 Zero and all ESD dogs, training is on-going. They only receive food when they successfully locate a device. To help with their perpetual training, we are collecting old cell phones, tablets, cameras, USB Drives, SD cards, and hard drives. They do not need to be in working order as the chemical compound is present in the components. If the device is still active, we urge you to erase its memory. Please drop your old electronic device in the box in the Clubhouse Ballroom Kitchen but do not include cords or chargers. Thank you! WWW.BROCKSWINDOWCLEANING.COM 17

L.A. LOOKS Wildlife Corner Photo & Article By Barbara Ann Comer The Tricolored Heron is a delicate heron superficially resembling the Great Blue but much smaller and dainty. It is about the same size as a Snowy Egret. If seen from the back it looks mostly blue and tan, but the front of the neck and the belly are white. It was formerly called the Louisiana Heron, but the name was changed to match a description of this blue, white and tan bird. The immature bird is striking with its chestnut hindneck and wing coverts. Tricoloreds can be found at any body of water in Lake Ashton fishing quietly at the water's edge. Their usual method is to stand still and wait for prey to unsuspectingly come within reach, however sometimes they stir the bottom sediments with a foot and dash around in pursuit of fish. They are solitary in their foraging for fish, insects, tadpoles, frogs, lizards and spiders. The ones in Florida are mainly non-migratory. ADOPT-A-ROAD CLEANUP By Linda Sandel A Lake Ashton quarterly litter clean-up event is scheduled for Thompson Nursery Road from Hwy. 27 to County Road 653 on March 26. Meet in the Clubhouse Lobby beginning at 8:30 am to pick up trash bags, gloves, safety vests and trash grabbers. Volunteers receive a free t-shirt and Bok Tower ticket each calendar year. LA (LW) HOA CORNER By Deanne Mayne March marks the first anniversary of ARC’s monthly meeting that is open to any residents who need assistance with ARC requests. ARC reps are available to answer other questions pertaining to what is allowed (and what is not) as residents make changes to their property and home exteriors. The meeting is the third Wednesday of the month and meets in the Card Room at 3:30. Compliance is also available during this meeting. This has been very well received over the past year! Compliance and ARC reps have made many visits to homes where gentle reminders were delivered for such issues as mailbox maintenance, driveway cleaning, and proper storage of trash and recycle bins. The annual HOA meeting will take place on March 7 at 1:30 pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom. The monthly meetings for the HOA will also be changing to the first Wednesday of the month starting on April 1 at 4:30 pm. The April meeting will be held in the Clubhouse Card Room but all meetings from May through December will be in the Clubhouse Ballroom at 3:30 pm. Finally, the HOA is still looking for residents who may be willing to give some time to volunteering. There is currently an unfilled Director position and ARC is hoping for more volunteers. Please consider joining our team!

LA II (WH) HOA/ARC CORNER By Connie Strassberg the authorization, privacy laws prevent us from contacting you. Hopefully we are past the unusual cold snap and once again enjoying our normal weather system. The LA II HOA is often asked what allows us to impose and enforce restrictions on the homeowners. LA II is a Florida deed-restricted community. This means we are a neighborhood with a homeowners association (HOA) where property deeds include legally binding rules, known as covenants, conditions, and restrictions (CC&Rs). These regulations which dictate property use, maintenance, and aesthetics were written to maintain community standards and property values. Common restrictions include limitations on exterior home colors, parking (RVs, boats, commercials vehicles), and landscaping. Residents who sell homes in LA2 (and their representatives) are required by law to disclose the existence of all LA2 rules and associated fees to buyers. The latest version of our CC&Rs, which were approved by a community vote on October 16, 2024, can be found on the Stambaugh website (https://stambaugh.cincwebaxis.com — go to "documents", then to "governing documents"). This is your website; please use it. To have access to announcements, posted documents, directory, calendar, or pay dues online, please sign up. First time users will find the button marked "REGISTER" in the upper right hand corner of the page. From there, you will be directed to sign up. The HOA has five flyer slots at the top of the flyer board at the Health and Fitness Center (HFC). They currently contain Email Contact Authorization forms and various information flyers about the HOA and the ARC. To ensure that you are getting email notifications from the LA2 HOA, submit a completed Email Authorization Form to our management company, Stambaugh 863-324-5100. Pick up a copy of the authorization form from our flyer slots; fill out the requested information; then, either mail the form back to Stambaugh or put it into the White HOA mailbox at the HFC. Without 19 The LA II HOA Board of Directors meets on the first Thursday of the month at 1 pm at the HFC (check at the desk for location). Our next meetings are scheduled for March 5 and April 2. The agenda for the meeting will be emailed to all who are signed up to receive email or can be found in our flyer spots after they have been finalized. We will also post them on TOLA, Free TOLA, and our own FaceBook Group: LA2 HOA/ARC INFO”. If you live in the West, sign up by submitting a request that includes your Name and LA II Address. The ARC (Architectural Review Committee) meetings are scheduled for the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 1 pm at the HFC. REMINDER TO A LL RESID ENTS: Under no circumstance should residents conduct work of any kind on CDD property. This includes ponds, common areas, or conservation/wetland areas. If there are any concerns regarding pond erosion or other areas in need of maintenance, including pavement areas or stormwater curbing, contact LA (LW) CDD Community Director Christine Wells (cwells@lakeashtoncdd.com) or LA II (WH) CDD Community Director Karen Van Kirk (kvankirk@lakeashton2cdd.com). Staff and the District Engineer may be seen behind your home reviewing any potential encroachments onto CDD property. Please ensure anything you install, including plantings, are being installed within your property boundaries. Residents that are found to have encroachments onto CDD property will be notified of the encroachment, and the Board of Supervisors will determine next actions, up to and including removing the encroachment at the homeowner’s expense and putting the area back to its original condition.

SAFETY NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH (NW) CORNER By Fay Wood, NW Chief COMMUNITY SAFETY AND THE BENEFITS OF NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH (NW) PROGRAMS In today's ever-changing world, fostering a sense of security within our neighborhoods has become paramount. Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it is easy to overlook the importance of knowing and trusting our neighbors. However, establishing a Neighborhood Watch program can bring about a myriad of benefits that not only enhance safety but also cultivate a stronger sense of community spirit. What is a Neighborhood Watch Program? At its core, a Neighborhood Watch program is a collaborative effort among all residents to observe and report suspicious activities in their community. These programs typically organize important yearly meetings with law enforcement and others to address safety and other important concerns. Neighborhood Watch programs empower residents to actively participate in safeguarding their surroundings and supporting those groups who also support total community efforts. Through key meetings and gatherings, residents have the opportunity to get to know one another better. This heightened sense of community not only deters criminal activity but also creates a support network where neighbors can rely on each other in times of need. Heightened Awareness and Vigilance By actively participating in a Neighborhood Watch program, residents become more attuned to their surroundings. They learn to recognize suspicious behavior, unfamiliar vehicles, or unusual activities, enabling them to promptly report any potential threats to local authorities. This heightened awareness serves as a powerful deterrent to criminals, as they are less likely to target neighborhoods where vigilant residents are actively monitoring their surroundings. Rapid Response to Emergencies In the event of an emergency, a well-established total communityNeighborhood Watch program can significantly expedite the response time and teamwork of law enforcement agencies and local support groups. Crime Prevention and Reduction Research has consistently shown that Neighborhood Watch programs contribute to crime prevention and reduction. When ALL residents, community leadership teams, and ongoing support vendors participate the deterrent effect of the community total program becomes that much stronger and can become even more fun! This total community commitment not only leads to a safer community but also fosters a greater sense of pride and satisfaction among residents, knowing that they are making a tangible difference in their own backyard, along with the community! Many thanks to our CDDs, HOAs, Management Teams, CAP, CERT, Security Officers, along with a special 20

thanks to those within the Lake Ashton Community (Lake Wales and Winter Haven) our Neighborhood Watch Deputies & other leadership. Those combined efforts have produced a total community program that is recognized throughout law enforcement and elsewhere on all levels. One of our hottest events is coming March 2 at 9 am in our Ballroom - Winter Haven and Lake Wales Police Chiefs will be updating what’s happening in both cities and other important areas. You won’t want to miss this very informative meeting. Please send any questions to me fswperson@aol.com so we can get answers direct from the Chiefs. Time permitting questions from the audience will be solicited! CITIZENS ASSISTED PATROL (CAP) By David Bishop, CAP Coordinator Lake Ashton is a very safe place to live, and that is not by accident. We are fortunate to be located in a county served by one of the most effective sheriff’s departments in the country. We also benefit from excellent police services supporting our neighboring municipalities, an active Neighborhood Watch Program, professional security personnel at our gates and on patrol, and modern technology that helps protect our community. In addition, our Citizen Assisted Patrol (CAP) volunteers play an important role in supporting overall safety. The area surrounding Lake Ashton continues to grow and evolve. What was once primarily rural land with small neighboring municipalities has developed into a more populated region with expanding residential communities. Growth brings many positive opportunities, but it also makes it important for communities like ours to remain attentive and proactive about safety. For that reason, all of our public safety partners continue working together to maintain the high level of security our residents expect. This includes the CAP Program, whose mission is to observe and report. As volunteers patrol, they remain attentive to anything unusual or potentially concerning and communicate information appropriately. We are also increasing patrol coverage with additional volunteers to help maintain strong awareness throughout the neighborhood. By working together — residents, volunteers, security personnel, Neighborhood Watch, and law enforcement — we help ensure Lake Ashton remains a safe and welcoming community for everyone. For those already involved with CAP and Neighborhood Watch, thank you for your service. Volunteer participation makes a meaningful difference in maintaining the quality of life we all value here. I also encourage residents who are interested to consider becoming involved in Neighborhood Watch or the PCSO Citizen Assisted Patrol as another way to support our community. AVOID A GATE STRIKE • Stop at the stop sign • Wait until any vehicles in front of you have passed through the gate and it is closing • Proceed SLOWLY, so the RFID reader can read your RFID tag and open • Pass through the gate only after the gate rises with no vehicles in front of you • Do NOT attempt to tailgate, as this could result in a gate strike HOSTING FAMI LY FOR SPRING BREAK? March is a traditional time for family and friends to 21 escape the cold and visit those lucky enough to live at Lake Ashton. Remember, when you see a visiting grandchild they are guests of your neighbors so please extend every courtesy possible. Residents, please be tolerant of extra activity at the pool and other amenities. Those hosting family should remind them to be considerate of residents in this 55 and older community. Always shower before entering the pool or spa, and do not eat or drink in the pools or spa or on the surrounding four-foot wet deck. Absolutely no glass containers are allowed. Spas are for those 13+, lower umbrellas when leaving, and ensure children walk. It is helpful if a resident accompanies their guests at any of the amenities, but is not required.

LIVING WITH WILDLIFE There are many types of wildlife at Lake Ashton. During the spring, young animals, including sandhill crane chicks (called colts), are often seen. If you see a baby animal alone, it is usually not orphaned. Parents are often nearby searching for food or watching from a distance. The best action is to leave the animal alone and not remove it from its natural environment. If you believe wildlife is injured or truly orphaned, contact the nearest FWC Regional Office at 863-648-3200 or visit: https://myfwc.com/conservation/you-conserve/ wildlife/injured-orphaned/ Residents are also reminded that feeding wildlife is illegal and can create unsafe situations. Feeding animals such as cranes, alligators, raccoons, and other wildlife reduces their natural fear of humans, which can lead to aggressive behavior, property damage, and sometimes the animal being removed or euthanized for public safety. Sandhill cranes have been known to damage window screens, scratch at windows, and may act aggressively toward people when they associate humans with food. Cranes attracted to residential areas are also at greater risk of being struck by vehicles while crossing roads, and many are killed on Florida roadways each year. Feeding can also disrupt their natural diet and increase exposure to lawn pesticides, which has led to crane deaths. Even accidental feeding, such as spilled birdseed, can harm wildlife. Native animals have abundant natural food sources and do not need food from people. The best way to protect wildlife is to enjoy observing them from a safe distance and never feed them. Learn more here: https://myfwc.com/conservation/you-conserve/ wildlife/sandhillcranes/ Alligators and crocodiles are an important part of Florida's heritage and play a valuable role in the ecosystems where they live. Those who live near lakes and ponds should still expect to see alligators from time to time. Remember - never feed or approach an alligator. If you encounter an aggressive alligator, call the Nuisance Alligator Hotline: 1-866-FWCGATOR (392-4286). Alligators under 4 feet in length are not considered a threat to humans. As long as residents have a healthy respect for wildlife, including alligators, there are opportunities to live and let live. There have also been reports of coyotes in the community. Please be mindful of your surroundings when walking at night with your pets. Make sure you walk in well lit areas, carry a flashlight, and avoid walking near wooded areas, when possible. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY No one plans on an emergency occurring while enjoying themselves at Lake Ashton, but should one happen, there are various emergency assistance items located throughout the Clubhouse and HFC that can help. The first step should always be to call 911 — remember, every second counts. There is an outdoor emergency phone near the East entrance gate of the Clubhouse, next to the large pool rules sign. This emergency phone can be used by all Lake Ashton residents, guests, and employees to contact 911 responders. The phone has a single push button, and an attendant will answer the call within 30 seconds to dispatch emergency responders. All dispatchers are CPR certified to assist with emergencies over the phone until help arrives. The emergency phone allows for automatic identification of the Lake Ashton Clubhouse address. The Clubhouse has a total of three Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) installed. One is located at the entrance near the Fitness Center Restrooms, one is in the north dressing room near the back entrance to the Cinema, and the final one is next to the restrooms across from the Restaurant in the Clubhouse. There is an AED in the HFC Community Center, in the Hallway near the HFC Fitness Center, as well as on both roving patrol carts. All vehicles, including golf carts, must obey all stop signs and the 20 mph speed limit throughout Lake Ashton. A person operating a golf cart on public roads or streets who is under 18 years must possess a valid learner’s permit or driver’s license. 22

They are President: Rebecca (Becky) Meader, Secretary: Linda Warden, and Treasurer: Amity Kokochak. Thank you to outgoing President, Linda Warden, who served as President for 3 ½ years. Under Linda’s leadership, BOLLA conducted two Trash to Treasure Sales, a Pop-Up Sale, presented the Portrait of a Bride show, and hosted a Trash to Treasure Thank You Event for over 100 people. Most importantly, during Linda’s tenure as President, BOLLA donated almost 4,000 blankets to the children of Polk County and raised a significant amount of money for BOLLA. The members of BOLLA would also like to thank outgoing Secretary, Chris Crane, who served in that role for many years, and Amity Kokochak who will continue to serve as BOLLA’s Treasurer. BOLLA meets on Mondays, from 1-3pm in the Clubhouse Craft Room and always welcomes new members. No sewing experience is necessary, just a desire to help children. LAVA AUXILIARY By Lori Thomas On January 31, 2026, the Lake Ashton Veterans Association Auxiliary held a community tag sale that proved to be a tremendous success. The event brought together friends and neighbors who generously purchased tables, donated tag sale items and boxes, purchased coffee and donuts, shopped, and made cash donations. We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from our community. This event truly would not have been possible without the kindness and participation of everyone who contributed. Thanks to this collective effort, the tag sale raised $2,496.00, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting our local veterans and veterans organizations. Your generosity helps us continue our mission of giving back to those who have served our country. Thank you for making this event such a meaningful and successful day for our veterans. 28 LA PURPLE STARS By David Harrison The LA Purple Stars are selling luminary bags for a minimum donation of $10 to the American Cancer Society at Monday Coffee and the HFC Activities Desk. LAKE ASHTON FRIENDS OF MEALS ON WHEELS By Marcia Santino This month we shine a spotlight on Meals on Wheels volunteer and Lake Ashton resident, Richard Kay. “Doc Richard” Kay has lived in Lake Ashton since March of 2021, relocating here from the Tampa Bay area after retiring as a Family Physician. He met his wife, Carrie, at an LA Singles Club meeting and married shortly thereafter, celebrating their third anniversary this month. Richard has been a MOWPolk meal delivery volunteer driver for almost 2 years. He volunteers 2 days per week, 2 different routes. When asked what he would say to someone considering becoming a volunteer, he said: “Do it! It’s better to give than to receive. I look forward to seeing the people on my route. It gives me purpose and is a small investment of time.” Meals on Wheels Polk receives no state or federal funding. It sustains through community-based charity and volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include: kitchen preparation / packaging, clean-up, meal delivery and thrift store clerks. For information on volunteer opportunities or meal services, please call 863-299-1616. Please consider joining Lake Ashton Friends of Meals on Meals (“LA FOMOW”) to help promote this essential non-profit organization in our community. To become a member or for more information please email lafomow@gmail.com.

We’re also thrilled to share that our recent fundraising efforts were a great success! Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our community, we’re able to continue growing, improving, and expanding our garden programs. Your support truly helps this shared space thrive. In February we spoke about the (paid) experiences we had each participated in and whether the cost was worth it. Invariably, all the experiences were great! GOLF LALGA By Beverly Hines The LALGA annual Member -Member Tournament was held February 9 – 10. Each 2person team selected a teammate to play the 2day tournament which was flighted so many had a chance to win. We even had closest to the pin both days. First day was held on the East with the format of Best ball and net score of the team. Second day was a 2-person scramble. Both days scores were added to get final winners in each flight. The theme of FORE THE LOVE OF GOLF brought out many creative matching outfits. Because it isn't just about golf but camaraderie. Then after golf on the second day, we all enjoyed a luncheon at the Eagles Nest. Congratulations to all the players. This event was a packed house with 63 golfers. A success to be sure. Thanks a bunch for your donations for the We Care for Kids Hygiene Kits drive. It was very successful. Donation will go to Lake Wales/ Winter Haven High School. Pictured right: Nancy Zografos & Dori Krogman showing some of the donations for the We Care for Kids Hygiene Kits Drive. The Challenge is ongoing until the end of May. Welcome to the LALGA’s newest member, Penny Whittington, and congratulations to Donna Larsen (pictured right) for her Albatross (Double Eagle) on #5 West! LA NINERS By Sandy Hockenberry Oh, for the love of golf! These Niners beauties would not be deterred by temperatures in the low 40’s. They persevered through the wind and the cold, when most others chose to stay warm and cozy at home. The Winter Worriers pictured here from left to right are Pamela June, Debbie Shillito, Karen Ferrande, Denise LaCaprucia, Liz Meigel and Brenda Bowden. Mar ch games include: March 3: Toss and Roll Scramble – Everyone drives, the best drive is selected and everyone plays their own ball until their ball is holed. Toss or roll one shot on any one hole, on the fairway, out of bunker or on the green. Toss or roll counts as a stroke and cannot be used on the “closest to the pin” hole. (team game) March 9 and 10: Niners/Blue Man Par 3 Ringer Tournament – Two players from the Niners and two players from the Blue Men play a team game on day one. (Continued on p. 42)

(Continued from p. 40) The same team plays the same holes on day two to try to improve their scores for each hole. Lunch at the Eagles Nest following golf on March 10 (team game). March 17: Wear Green – Everyone Plays From Green Tees – Shamble 2 Best Nets – All Niners play from the Green Tees, everyone drives, the best drive is selected and everyone plays their own ball until their ball is holed. Don’t forget to get your Irish on by wearing some green. March 24: 5 Clubs – Everyone plays their own ball using only 5 clubs, that were pre-selected. (Individual game, but scores not eligible to be posted) March 31: Tropical Tuesday a 4 Person Scramble / Closing Day Events and Luncheon – a 4 person team selects best ball on each stroke and plays from there, until the ball is holed. Tropical attire encouraged, but optional. New Board Members will be announced. LAMGA By David Kubissa The audience at staged productions only sees what goes on when the curtain goes up. But the preparations behind the scenes are what make the show a success. In many ways, that scenario is what unfolds each year when the LAMGA board of directors work to pull off the annual Member-Guest tournament. This year’s event takes place from March 5-7 with 120 golfers vying for prizes in 10 flights. What they will get along with three days of golf are five meals, a value-packed gift bag and chances to win door prizes, closest-tothe-pin rewards, and a shot at a new car for a hole-in-one on No. 2 East. Much of the cost of those amenities and gifts comes from sponsorships secured by all six LAMGA board members. The chore of gathering those sponsors received a boost in 2025 from a subcommittee of LAMGA members who volunteered to help build sponsorship. It was a resounding success, guided by subcommittee chairman Mark Kennedy who again this year is leading the effort with help from LAMGA members Jim Kutsch and Tom Murphy (pictured). But they aren’t the only people working behind the scenes to stage this year’s tournament. The wives and friends of board members will be pitching in during the tournament to hand out registration packets, run a raffle and serve refreshments to golfers. Throughout the year, the sponsors behind the tournament will be listed in this monthly article and posted on the LAMGA web page on LakeAshtonLiving.com. What warrants special mention this month are the major sponsors who have donated well above the minimal donor level. They are: Ryan C. Bates LLC (Bates Capital); Amerity Financial / Burris Warner; Chris Bruser, Mutual of Omaha; JR Golf Carts; Red Hoagland Hyundai; Huston Cadillac Buick GMC; Snowbird Heating and Cooling; Enriquez Lawn & Landscaping; and Weikert Ford. Keep these businesses top of mind when shopping for goods and services in Polk County.
