DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME: SPRING FORWARD MARCH 10 Set your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night before you go to bed (some electronic devices such as smartphones and iPads make this change automatically). This is also a good time to check your smoke alarm batteries. 5 HOSTING FAMI LY FOR SPRING BREAK? March is a traditional time for family and friends to escape the cold up north and come to visit those lucky enough to live at Lake Ashton. Remember that when you see a visiting grandchild they are guests of your neighbors so please extend every courtesy possible. Residents, please be tolerant of extra activity at the pool and other Clubhouse amenities. Those hosting family should remind them to be considerate of residents in this 55 and older community. It is helpful if a resident accompanies their guests at any of the amenities. The law requires that a person operating a golf cart on public roads or streets who is under 18 years of age must possess a valid learner’s permit or driver’s license. Lake Wales PD and Winter Haven PD can issue a ticket for violations of this law. All drivers (car and golf carts) must observe the stop signs and 20 mph speed limit. Adults should not place young children on their laps between them and the steering wheel as this creates a hazardous condition for the children in the case of a panic stop or accident. HOMELESS GRADUATING SENIORS By Doris Reisinger Dr. Julio Caba will be speaking about his rise from a homeless teenager to a successful doctorate in teaching on March 4. A true success story! He speaks every year at the graduation party for the Polk County graduates. I attended their party last year and one student even went up and hugged him for his inspiration. Hopefully this will inspire you to donate in some fashion to this worthy cause. Any amount great or small is so welcome. JOINT AMENI TY POL ICY HIGHLIGHT GUESTS (CHANGES EFFECTIVE 1/19/24) • All Guests, regardless of age, must register with the office of the Amenity Manager and sign a waiver of liability prior to using the Amenity Facilities. • The Patron inviting the Guest must be present upon registration, unless other arrangements have been made with the Amenity Manager’s office. • A Guest is limited to 12 Guest Registrations per year. • Guest passes may be issued for a maximum of fifteen (15) consecutive days as correlated with the guest’s length of stay and may only be extended once for a maximum of thirty (30) total consecutive days. • A Guest cannot be registered for more than sixty (60) total days in a 365-day period. • A Guest’s ability to be registered may be reviewed by an Amenity Manager if exceeding the standards listed above. • All Guests under eighteen (18) years of age must be accompanied at all times while using the Amenity Facilities by a parent, guardian, or adult Patron over twenty-one (21) years of age. • Patrons are responsible for ensuring that their Guests adhere to the Policies set forth herein and any and all actions taken by said Guest. Violation by a Guest of any of these Policies as set forth by the Districts could result in loss of that Patron’s privileges and membership as set forth in Section VI – Suspension and Termination of Privileges. RESIDENTS TO RESIDENTS By Tom Scali Lake Ashton is a great community with more options on living our lives than we’ve ever imagined. As we get older, we are starting to think about the next step. Do we move into a continuing care health facility or can we stay here at Lake Ashton as we age? It would be nice to have a forum of residents with similar thoughts to try and put together a list of needs as we become less able to help ourselves. Such items as what kind of in-house care options are available and the cost? Is there a public transportation network to take us to doctors or grocery shopping? What are the costs? There are many more items; some unique to the individual, couple, or widow/widower. All of these needs have to be identified. I was hoping that a forum of concerned residents could identify these needs and then, hopefully, a core group of residents could help find answers and contacts. Maybe vendors with the right qualifications could give us presentations on the products and costs. If anyone is interested in working with us to get this program started, 7 WELCOME BACK, WELCOME COMMITTEE! By Kathy Williams, Welcome Committee Member Resident Catherine Leveille began discussions with Christine to reinstate the LA Welcome Committee that had been disbanded due to the pandemic. The committee has been meeting and discussing ways to build community throughout our wonderful development! She is joined by former LA Welcome Committee leaders David and Barbara Harrison, new members Paul and MJ Richards, Kathy Williams, Judy Perry, Lisa Roy, Valerie Yenor, Cynthia Harris, and Nancy Miller. The committee’s goal is to meet with new residents (and maybe some existing residents) to assist them with acclimating to their new surroundings; finding fun things to do with like minded individuals, discussing local attractions and activities, or just navigating the numerous activities offered in Lake Ashton. If you’d like to be welcomed by a committee representative, know someone new in the neighborhood who would, or have some ideas to share, please send an email to lawelcomecommittee@gmail.com. 2024 CITY OF LAKE WALES COMMISSION ELECTION/ CANDIDATE MEET & GREET Lake Wales residents can vote in the next Commission election on April 2 in the Clubhouse Ballroom. An informal candidate meet and greet will be held after Monday Coffee on March 18 at 10 am. Residents will have a chance to ask questions and meet the candidates running for Seats 2 and 4.

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT John Moore and his wife Gloria have lived at Lake Ashton since 2005 and he recently celebrated his 93rd birthday. John has graced Lake Ashton with his immeasurable talents for over 18 years, teaching residents how to line dance. He was one of the original line dancing teachers at Lake Ashton and recently retired on February 29. In addition to being an amazing dancer and instructor, he is also a talented artist, singer, and seamster ,who sews all of the iconic vests his students know so well. John is a ray of sunshine who is always looking for a way to make people smile. Whether it's a joke, a package of cookies, or just a big smile, his infectious personality leaves an impression on everyone he meets. John will be greatly missed as a line dancing instructor at Lake Ashton, although he has promised to stop by and check on his students from time to time. You can also find him at Monday Coffee meetings telling a hilarious joke at the end. Thank you, John for all of your years of dedication to Lake Ashton! He is from New Hampshire where he was Community Director for the VA, managing 2,700 residences. He was also the Director of Environmental Services at Waters Edge. What do you like most about working here in LA? “Right now, Christine and I are collaborating together to get our community back together. We want all our residents to realize the amenities are for everyone and we want to see all of our residents taking advantage of all that we have to offer. We have started to sync events between the Clubhouse and the HFC to ensure large events are not held on the same night at both locations causing our residents to choose one over the other. “ What is your biggest challenge? “I would say the budget restrictions. There are quite a few things that need to be done but it cannot all be done overnight. We have to choose priorities and work within our budget. I would like to ask all residents to give us time and they will see these changes coming. Current efforts are updating the fitness equipment, updating the indoor pool area with painting, plants, bringing in more classes such as Zumba and possibly Aqua Zumba. We have availability for more classes and want to provide some new options.” What would you like to say to the residents? “I would encourage all residents to get more active. We have some really great amenities and facilities here in Lake Ashton and want everyone to take full advantage of them. I would love to see more residents come to the HFC who don’t currently use the HFC to see what we have to offer as well as give myself and our staff a chance to meet them.”

US-17 TO US-27 540A ROAD WIDENING UPDATE The Lake Ashton Community Action Committee (LACAC) met with Jay Jarvis, Director of Polk County Roads & Drainage in January. Below are highlights regarding the road project from US-17 to US-27 and the widening of Thompson Nursery Road. There are five segments to the project. Segment 2, 4 & 5 will likely be completed concurrently along with the US-27 Intersection changes, so these segment updates are grouped together below: Segment 1: US-17 (at A&E Auto) to Rifle Range Road is 100% planned. They are finalizing right-of-way and then sending out for bid. Construction will begin in late 2024 to 2025. It will take about 2 years to complete (by early 2027) Segment 3: CSX Railroad Flyover to Eloise Loop Road is under construction by the builder (VillaMar) up to where the CSX Railroad Flyover bridge will be built by the county during Segment 2 construction. A date of completion was not provided. Segment 2: Rifle Range Road to the CSX Railroad Flyover Segment 4: Eloise Loop Road Segment 3 to W Lake Ruby Drive Segment 5: W Lake Ruby Drive to US-27 For these three segments, alignment is continuing to be discussed. All options and the recommended location for the roadway for Segment 2 path will be presented at a Public Meeting to be held in May 2024. Segments 4 and 5 will roughly follow the current road path along sections of Eloise Loop Road and Thompson Nursery Road. The Design phase will take approximately 2 years plus another year for gaining the right-of-way property. Construction will likely begin in 2028 and the road should be fully completed in 2030 or 2031. Currently, traffic signals are planned at US 17, Rifle Range and Snively, Eloise Loop and Rifle Range, possibly at Eloise Loop and the VillaMar entry/exit, West Lake Ruby, possibly Traditions, Lake Ashton, The LW Corporation development east of Lake Ashton and of course, US-27. The Lake Ashton temporary traffic signal should be installed no later than the end of 2025. More information will be coming soon regarding the Public Comment Meeting to be held in May. The exact date and location has yet to be determined, but will be held in our vicinity. At that meeting, the final routing for segments 2, 4 & 5 will be presented. Anyone can attend this presentation. Full design graphics will be displayed and public questions and comments may be presented. After the meeting, between May and July possible changes will be considered and implemented if deemed possible. After that time, no additional comments will be taken, as by that point the design will begin, and the project will move forward. Spring at Lake Ashton brings beautiful weather, baby animals, lots of guests, and a plethora of activities. Be careful when traveling through Lake Ashton, especially at this time of year. This is when the community is at peak population with many residents spending time outdoors, taking advantage of the beautiful weather. In February residents enjoyed a Valentine's Day Dinner Dance with a great new band, Southshore Cruisers, and a Pirate Party with 99 in the Shade rocking the house. This will be the band at the NYE 2025 party! Mark your calendar now. You won't want to miss this amazing band! In March there are many resident sponsored events at the Clubhouse in addition to Lake Ashton's First Annual Senior Expo (FREE), the Annual Cruise-in Car Show (FREE), and the last two Entertainment Series Shows.The 2024 Entertainment Series will surely end with a bang! Staff is working with Securitas, the onsite security company, on the implementation of the RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) and Amenity Access Controls systems. February was a very busy month that had many activities all our residents enjoyed. One in particular, the Sock Hop on February 2 featuring the 57 Chrome Band was a huge success, and supported Alzheimer's Research. We had many “Pink Ladies" in attendance, along with their dates (in jeans and t-shirts), that 'truly gave the evening a fifties feel. Our Magic Show on February 9 gave our residents a fun afternoon of magic and illusions. Many people got to participate in the illusions and magic ... and it was FREE! Our CERT Team also held a Tornado drill honing their skills in emergency management. It was observed by the Polk County Fire and Rescue officials, and our outstanding volunteers performed extremely well. Kudos to our CERT Team! March also promises to be a very exciting month for the Health and Fitness Center and the Lake Ashton II Community Development District. The Lake Ashton Purple Stars will be hosting a St. Paddy's Day Party on March 17 from 7 to 10 pm in the HFC Community Center. This dance will support the American Cancer Society, and tickets are on sale at the HFC. A donation of $10 (cash or check) payable to LA Purple Stars is required. DJ Wayne will be there for all types of music, including some Irish tunes. Get out your best green outfits and support this great cause. The March Community Potluck is scheduled for March 21 at noon at the HFC. Come on out and get to know your neighbors at this outstanding event. The Aqua Zumba program is in the final stages of planning, and the dates for March will be forthcoming. Please note on your April calendar that Elvis will be in the building at 7 pm on April 12 for an evening of Elvis impersonation. A reminder that the Lake Ashton II CDD Board will be developing our 2025 budget over the next few meetings. Our Board will review financial requirements for our amenities and community infrastructure. We encourage all Lake Ashton II members to attend and give us feedback throughout the entire process. Hope to see you there! As we are coming into the Spring Season, and many of us will have family and guests visiting, please make sure they are registered at either the HFC, Clubhouse, or CR 653 gate. Additionally, please make sure age restrictions for operating golf carts are strictly followed. Again, we are excited to bring many more activities and programs to the HFC in 2024 that we are sure our residents will enjoy! 11

L.A. LOOKS NATIVE AQUATIC PLANTS Many Florida-native aquatic plant species can be found in the waters of Lake Ashton. Pictured clockwise are the most prevalent: Duck Potato, Bulrush, Pickerel Weed, and Spikerush. For the health of our lakes and ponds, these plants are essential. The roles these plants have vary from shoreline stability to filtering unwanted nutrients in the water that could fuel algae blooms. The Lake Ashton CDD contracts a reliable company for nuisance vegetation management. To protect native aquatic plant life, selective herbicides are utilized. If there are any questions or concerns, email Matt Fisher at mfisher@lakeashtoncdd.com. LIVING WITH WILDLIFE There are many types of wildlife at Lake Ashton. During the spring many young animals, including sandhill cranes (colts), are seen roaming around Lake Ashton. At times residents may see a baby on its own and think it has been orphaned by its parents, which is actually very rare. Do not pick up baby animals or remove them from their natural environment. Report wildlife you think may be injured or orphaned to the nearest FWC Regional Office at 863-648-3200. Reference: myfwc.com/conservation/ youconserve/wildlife/injuredorphaned/ While some residents may think it is innocent to throw some pieces of old bread in their backyard or a pond, it is illegal to feed wildlife and can create an unfavorable situation. Like most weeds, this one also gets a “bad rap.” This is a low-maintenance pollinating garden must-have that blooms in the summer, although maybe not in its first year of growth. It is clump-forming and can reach four to five feet tall with a width of two to three feet. The clump of flowers are a soft mauve or reddish-violet color. The Swamp Milkweed is best planted in a wet area with plenty of sunshine. Some gardeners prefer to plant it in containers to maintain its spreading habits. However, be sure it’s big and has good drainage. The milkweed does not like to be uprooted and moved once established because of its deep taproots. Swamp Milkweed is the number one food source for monarch butterflies. It also attracts hummingbirds, bees and other birds to your yard. It requires no pruning. Removing dead stalks or dead heading is okay. The swamp milkweed can easily grow from seeds. killed in order to protect public safety. Cranes also have been known to damage window screens and do other property damage such as scratching at windows. Cranes attracted to people's yards for feed are put at risk as they walk across roads. In 2002, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission made it illegal to intentionally feed sandhill cranes (Florida Administrative Code 68A-4.001(6)). It's never a good idea to feed wildlife. Florida sandhill cranes have an abundance of natural foods (insects and small animals) and they do not need handouts from humans. To many residents of Lake Ashton it may appear that there are 3 species of Ibis here, however there are only two. The White Ibis (above) is abundant and gregarious. The long down-curved bill becomes a bright orange-red in mating season and so do the legs. This mostly white bird with pale blue eyes has black wing tips prominent in flight. As a group, they may mob people uttering almost human-like grunts hoping for a free handout. Please do not feed them. Their diet consists of crayfish, crabs, insects, snails, frogs, marine worms, snakes and small fish. The Glossy Ibis (right), similar in size and shape to the White Ibis, is a more solitary bird with beautiful iridescent green and bronze colored feathers. Its diet is similar to the White Ibis'. From a distance, Glossies can appear totally dark. The Ibis that confuses people is the immature White Ibis, pictured at left, which is a mixture of brown and white. SAFETY SECURITY TRANSITION Installation of the equipment needed for the system to function is ongoing and staff is in the process of training. Soon residents will be notified of the process to receive a RFID tag and Amenity Access Card. LACDD (Lake Wales) residents will receive their RFID tag and Amenity Access Card at the Clubhouse. LAIICDD (Winter Haven) residents will receive their RFID tag at the HFC and their Amenity Access Card at the Clubhouse. All residents will complete an application during the issuance of credentials that will verify the information provided and allow for changes to made or residents to submit information for the first time. Please stay tuned to email for information on when this will take place. Examples of the RFID tags and amenity access cards are on display in the Clubhouse Media Center and HFC Activities Desk for residents to get a first time look at the credentials that will be distributed. NEI GHBORHOO D WATCH POLICE CHIEFS MEETING By Fay Wood, NW Chief We once again hosted the Lake Wales and Winter Haven Police Chiefs at Monday Coffee in February and as always, they presented a wealth of information on safety, a summary of the year’s activity, and the integral part we play in keeping our community safe. Neighborhood Watch with all of you is doing a great job. We can’t thank our Law Enforcement enough for all that they do, not only for Lake Ashton but all of Lake Wales and Winter Haven. Monday’s meeting proved to be one of my proudest and favorite moments as it allowed us to really show support and respect to our Law Enforcement partners by recognizing the service of four K9 officers. We were thrilled to work with a wonderful organization in presenting (and surprising) each Chief with a beautiful quilt for each K9 Officer made by our very own residents from the K9 Quilt of Honor organization. These quilts were an amazing gift honoring and showing recognition to K9 Max and K9 Badge of Lake Wales; and to K9 Miko and K9 Carlo of Winter Haven. By Gina Krall The LA Mardi Gras Krewe excitedly took their assigned lineup in the Lake Wales Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday, February 10, just three days before Fat Tuesday. A few days prior, our den (Mardi Gras speak for wher e the parade decorations are stored) was transformed into Bourbon Street. Royals to be crowned, King Louie and Queen Sara (Louis and Sara Helsen), were escorted into the ball by the Lord and Lady in Waiting (Ralph and Ann Ludwick). Loyal subjects lined up to bow and curtsy as they passed. After taking the Royal Oath of Office they were crowned Lake Ashton’s 2024 Mardi Gras King and Queen by the Duke and Duchess of Dunmore (Phil Hines and Gayle Ellerbe). Entertainer Diana Lynn was the master of ceremonies for the festive evening. On Saturday, Lake Wales Parade Committee placed our Krewe between the Grand Marshall and Sheriff Grady Judd. King Louis and Queen Sara sat on the back of a red Mustang convertible, waving to the crowd and tossing beads. They were followed by two banners carried by Krewe members and then our lavishly decorated float with Diana riding in the back and singing to the applauding crowds. Following the float, our own Ashtonettes twirled their way through the streets. Next came more sign carriers holding a “Sponsored by Art’s Golf Cars” banner, recognizing Art’s Golf Cars for paying our krewe’s entrance fee for the second year in a row. Bringing up the rear of our krewe were the always outstanding LA Shakers. We certainly made our presence known to the celebrating crowds. PORTRAIT OF A BRIDE DELIGHTS AUDIENCE By Diane Dillon BOLLA, sponsored the popular Portrait of a Bride Event in the Clubhouse Ballroom on January 27. Leigh Ann Brown, dynamic speaker, and collector of vintage wedding gowns, returned to Lake Ashton with close to 20 of her favorites. Each gown came with a fascinating story regarding its owner and the issues of the day when the gown was worn. The oldest gown, from 1859, is green. Of course, Leigh Ann had many stories pertaining to the growth of her collection, currently at 441 dresses. Leigh Ann’s personal journey and colorful anecdotes delighted the audience of over 100 ladies. During the presentation, which lasted several hours, everyone enjoyed delicious refreshments including many desserts lovingly created by BOLLA members. Feedback on this event has been overwhelming. The members of BOLLA would like to thank the staff at the Clubhouse and everyone who attended and supported this event. 22

WALK FOR A CURE By David Harrison The LA Purple Stars are selling luminary bags at Monday Coffee as a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society for a minimum donation of $10. Decorate the bag, return the bags and a small can like soup, to any LA Purple Stars member or Activities Desk staff member or volunteer by March 8. Why Wealth Management Is Important for Women Today, women control a third of household assets. There is no charge. 32 Know Thy Health By Lynda Hadley The Endocrine System: Hormones Most of us don’t realize the role that the endocrine system plays in regulating our body processes. As we age, there is a decrease in our fat-burning hormones, and an increase of our fatstoring hormones. Growth hormone is involved in building lean tissue and burning fat. It also builds collagen (youthful skin), enhances immune function (keeps you healthy), and stimulates cartilage growth (increased bone density). As it declines, along with testosterone, we tend to pack on fat which lowers these hormones even more and starts the cycle of weight gain. Cortisol increases with stress and age and leads to increased abdominal fat. The effects of increased cortisol include slower metabolism (we burn less calories), reduced lean tissue (we lose muscle), loss of energy (we become lethargic). As women age their estrogen levels decline. The effects of lower estrogen levels include increased appetite, reduced fat burning, redistribution of fat to the belly area, and decreased energy. Progesterone also declines with age, altering the progesterone-to-estrogen ratio and causing a condition known as “estrogen dominance.” This can lead to irritability, depression, sleep problems, water retention, increased appetite, and sugar cravings. Testosterone is important for weight management because it helps build and maintain muscle. It also burns fat and increases energy. As testosterone declines with age, the result is loss of lean tissue and muscle tone. Lower mental energy and increased visceral fat. Exercise is the key to activating hormones and countering cortisol’s effect on our waistline. Exercising at least 3 times per week for 45 minutes can increase secretion of hormones and put you back in control of your health and fitness goals.

CLUBS FRIENDLY BOCCE GROUP By Linda Boast The 2024 Lake Ashton Friendly Bocce Group will have their annual tournament on Saturday, March 16 from 9 am to approximately 2 pm at the newly remodeled bocce courts located next to the Clubhouse. Our February meeting had a good turnout, and we received thanks for providing Christmas to a dozen Senior Orphans in Polk County. These are people deep in poverty who have no family to care for them. We also committed to adopting Senior Orphans again this summer for “Christmas in July.” Recent club activities included a tour of Bok Tower, and lunch at Jacaranda Hotel last month. After the meeting we played Five Crowns and a board game, and we are open to learning new games. Afterwards, we went to Harry’s Old Place for dinner. Every Sunday at 2 p.m. we play cards and board games at the Clubhouse ballroom (or if it’s busy the Card Room), then it’s dinner out somewhere. DUPLICATE BRIDGE By Don Fuller & Liz Leigh The Duplicate Bridge group is celebrating 20 years of Monday games at Lake Ashton, making us one of the oldest ongoing activities in the community. Started by Pat Foster — who still participates — the group has provided both a challenging and a learning opportunity for our players. We celebrated our anniversary on January 29 with a luncheon prior to our game. Presently the game is operated by Don W. Fuller, an ACBL Certified Director. The LAVA Auxiliary is made up of residents who love our 40 country. It is non-political and any Lake Ashton resident is invited to join. We meet once a month on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. near the stage at the Clubhouse. During the year we host events to raise funds for our veterans and active military. The Girl Scouts attended our February meeting and offered for sale not only cookies but also donations for cookies to be sent to our military overseas. The LAVA Auxiliary started the donations with a $400 check for this cause. SAVE THE DATE: The Annual Craft Fair is Saturday, October 26. LA ROCKERS By Annie Lutz LA Rockers is a wonderful group of residents that spreads acts of kindness to our LA Community. By painting and hiding rocks here at Lake Ashton we hope to change a person’s day, outlook, and even their life by finding just the right message at just the right time. Our group had a great turnout for the recent LA community Club Expo. We welcomed six new members this past month. As our group grows, we’ve had an average of 28 members at each meeting. Come give the group a try! You don’t need to be an artist to create a beautiful rock. There are lots of ways to paint and the group is always happy to share tips and techniques. LA Rockers meets in the HFC Community Center from 2 to 4 pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. The 1st Wednesday is for current members to learn new skills and techniques. The 3rd Wednesday is a “Free Paint” session where newcomers are welcome to join the group. Newcomers will be lent the supplies they need for their first session. It’s very important to contact MJ Richards (mjmrichards517@gmail.com) at least five days before their first meeting so that supplies can be provided. LA SWIM CLUB By Sandy White The Lake Ashton Swim Club is a fun opportunity to swim for fitness with friends and fellow residents. As a group we support each other. The volunteer instructor/coach gives tips to help improve techniques and creates different written suggested workouts for all levels. Some come just for exercise; some also want to improve their technique; while a few go to one or more of the Florida Senior Games, which offer a variety of strokes and distances in 10 age groups and 2 gender groups. Whatever your interest, come swim at your own pace and get fit with us. The club has reserved the HFC pool on Mondays at 6 pm, Wednesdays at 1 pm, and Saturdays at 10 am. LA PICKLEBALL CLUB By Lisa Savala The Lake Ashton Pickleball Association (LAPA) is comprised of residents who enjoy pickleball, from Beginners to Advanced. LAPA is a great way to connect with other players while making pickleball more fun. Here are a few things LAPA does: • Supply balls to all courts • Coordinate Training Clinics, Mixer Tournaments, and Social Events • Represent the members to the CDD • Purchase essential items that go beyond the CDD’s responsibility • Manage league teams that compete with neighboring communities • Post playing time schedules and other useful information on the bulletin board outside the courts Membership forms and a submission box are located at the Clubhouse or HFC Activities Offices. The cost is $12 for January through December. If you sign up after January the fee is prorated by $1 per month. For example, $9 if your membership starts in April. Join us for another year of pickleball fun! 41 LAKE ASHTON FRIENDS OF MEALS ON WHEELS By Marcia Santino This month we shine a spotlight on Meals on Wheels recipient Lenore “Gundy” Costello. Lenore lives in Lake Alfred and celebrated her 107th birthday in November. “Gundy”, as she is known, is a former Executive Director of the Girl Scouts Heart of Florida Council, founder of Camp Wildwood and was recognized as the oldest Girl Scout in the nation at the Girl Scouts National Conference last July. Lenore is one of over 600 seniors and adults with limited mobility throughout Polk County that depends on Meals on Wheels for nutritiously-balanced meals each week. Meal Services are based on need, not age or income.Please consider joining Lake Ashton Friends of Meals on Meals (“LA FOMOW”) to help promote this very deserving non-profit organization in our community. GOLF LAMGA By David Kubissa The first weekend in March brings LAMGA’s signature event to life, the annual Member-Guest Tournament that takes place March 7, 8 and 9. The field comprises 60 two-man teams divided into 10 flights as they compete in best-ball play on both the East and West courses. The top finishers in each flight receive gift certificates to the pro shop. But win or not, all participants walk away from the tournament with a generous gift bag that includes a variety of golf merchandise. The teams compete in their own flights in nine-hole matches against one another. Along the way, they have a chance to shoot for prizes in closest-to-hole opportunities and in a special 100-yard closest-to-pin contest from the 18th fairway on the West Course. That competition, on March 7, is sponsored by the Red Hoagland Hyundai. Red Hoagland is one of dozens of sponsors supporting the tournament. Sponsorships come from a wide array of businesses and services in the area. In addition to Red Hoagland, the following sponsors make major contributions that enable LAMGA to fund this tournament: Amerity Financial / Burris Warner; Chris Bruser, Mutual of Omaha reverse mortgage specialist; Art’s Golf Cars; and Snowbird Heating and Cooling.
