CLUBS FRIENDLY BOCCE GROUP By Linda Boast The 2024 Lake Ashton Friendly Bocce Group will have their annual tournament on Saturday, March 16 from 9 am to approximately 2 pm at the newly remodeled bocce courts located next to the Clubhouse. Lake Ashton residents Jim and Kay Weaver of Weaver/Loveless Law will sponsor the tournament again this year. They will award prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. We encourage all to come out to watch this year’s tournament. Bring your chairs, lunch and drinks and spend the day with a great group of people. Not available on the 16th? Join us at the courts on the 1st and 3rd Fridays from 4 to 6 pm for our tailgate socials. Bring your drinks and an appetizer to share. Contact Stephanie Iszak (609-980-9505, siszak@comcast.net) or Tammy Shields (863-632-2024, tammy.shields1221@gmail.com) for more information. GARDEN CLUB By Lynn Davis The Lake Ashton Garden Club had a wonderful morning touring Bok Towers on February 14. The club had an opportunity to tour the “behind scenes” at the Tower’s greenhouses. Sil Wells and Alice Hearn led two different tours. A special thank you to both ladies for an excellent tour. The club’s next meeting is scheduled for March 13. The club members will tour Dennis Krupinski’s pollinator heaven garden. Please come and support the Garden Club on Wednesday, April 10. The Club’s third annual silent auction/garden sale will be held at 10am. The Garden Club does not collect dues. The plant sale is its main fundraiser. Monies collected go towards speakers, replenishing plants at the pavilion, HFC pool, corners on Dunmore and Mulligan, and the front of the Eagle’s Nest. The club hopes to add other projects in the near future. Anyone interested in donating plants, pots or miscellaneous garden items for this event please email Lynn Davis at crladavis@aol.com. 38 SINGLES CLUB By Carol Corley Singles have been busy — playing cards, eating out, going to shows, and helping others. Our February meeting had a good turnout, and we received thanks for providing Christmas to a dozen Senior Orphans in Polk County. These are people deep in poverty who have no family to care for them. We also committed to adopting Senior Orphans again this summer for “Christmas in July.” Recent club activities included a tour of Bok Tower, and lunch at Jacaranda Hotel last month. After the meeting we played Five Crowns and a board game, and we are open to learning new games. Afterwards, we went to Harry’s Old Place for dinner. Every Sunday at 2 p.m. we play cards and board games at the Clubhouse ballroom (or if it’s busy the Card Room), then it’s dinner out somewhere. Our next meeting will be March 3 at 2 p.m. We hope you join us. CAMERA CLUB By Larry Hillock Spring will officially arrive on March 19, so what better way to kick off the season than with a presentation by Barbara Comer entitled “Birds of Lake Ashton”. Her presentation will surely motivate us to pick up our cameras and enjoy the nature that surrounds us here at Lake Ashton. Residents with an interest in photography are welcome to attend our meeting and members are encouraged to bring along a few photos on a USB drive to share. The meeting will be on March 11th at 10:30 am in the Clubhouse Cinema. GENEALOGY CLUB By Jane Imparl The next meeting of the LA Genealogy Club will be Wednesday, March 13 at 2 pm in the HFC Craft Room. We always have a good time sharing our research stories and asking/answering questions. Come join your fellow Lake Ashtonians and have fun enjoying the company of your neighbors while also looking for your long lost ancestors. Questions? Call Jane at 815-545-6655.
