GOLF LAMGA By David Kubissa The first weekend in March brings LAMGA’s signature event to life, the annual Member-Guest Tournament that takes place March 7, 8 and 9. The field comprises 60 two-man teams divided into 10 flights as they compete in best-ball play on both the East and West courses. The top finishers in each flight receive gift certificates to the pro shop. But win or not, all participants walk away from the tournament with a generous gift bag that includes a variety of golf merchandise. The teams compete in their own flights in nine-hole matches against one another. Along the way, they have a chance to shoot for prizes in closest-to-hole opportunities and in a special 100-yard closest-to-pin contest from the 18th fairway on the West Course. That competition, on March 7, is sponsored by the Red Hoagland Hyundai. Red Hoagland is one of dozens of sponsors supporting the tournament. Sponsorships come from a wide array of businesses and services in the area. In addition to Red Hoagland, the following sponsors make major contributions that enable LAMGA to fund this tournament: Amerity Financial / Burris Warner; Chris Bruser, Mutual of Omaha reverse mortgage specialist; Art’s Golf Cars; and Snowbird Heating and Cooling. This monthly article, throughout 2024, will include the names of other sponsors that have made the tournament possible this year. You also can find the full list of LAMGA sponsors on the league’s web page at LakeAshtonLiving.com. The Red Hoagland dealership also supports a monthly competition of LAMGA players, and the results of the first month of the season are in. Here is the leader board from January in the annual Red Hoagland Hyundai Challenge: 1.) Darrel Reid, $38.75; 2.) Mike Krigelski and Tom Murphy tied with $29.75; 4.) Alan Gasner, $28.75; 5.) Pat O’Neil and Ed Powers tied with $27.75. LAMGA weekly participants compete for prizes in the form of pro shop credits. The amounts in the standings represent how much in pro shop credits that they collected in January.
