Behind the Brand AUNTY AMY'S NATURAL REMEDIES amy and michael sloan Situated in the picturesque foothills of the Yarra Valley, Aunty Amy’s Natural Remedies was born from tradition and love. Amy Sloan originally made a range of balms from family developed recipes using ingredients and knowledge passed down through four generations. The original products were made solely for her family, but it was quickly realized how these products could benefit others as well. Amy explains, “We often joke in our household that whenever anyone complains of an ailment, my response is ‘I've got a balm for that! ’ We also have a large extended family with 22 nieces and nephews so for Christmas 2018, I decided to make an Itch and Ouch Balm for each of them. The balm was to be a cure all for any kind of bump, bruise or scrape. We made a large batch; Michael designed a label and we purchased some tins. We had such a great response from adults and children alike that we knew we were onto something. Pa healed the crack in his thumb that had bothered him for decades. Eczema cleared up. Cradle Cap greatly improved and our nieces and nephews started saying ‘put some Aunty Amy's on it’ whenever they cut a finger or scraped their knee. “We use 100% natural ingredients beginning with herbs that grow locally in the Yarra Valley. All our herbs were originally grown and harvested from our own backyard or local bushland. Plantain is a common weed in our backyard; dandelions were picked from Grandma’s farm in Kinglake; chamomile I grew in my herb garden for tea; yarrow and stinging nettle I would pick when we went for family walks. As we have grown, we have had to expand and buy herbs from other local growers. “We truly are a family business.
