Page 2 WELCOME On behalf of the Congress Organizing Committee it is a great pleasure to invite you all to the 4th Joint EFLMUEMS Congress in Warsaw, largest European event in Laboratory Medicine and Clinical Diagnostics in 2016. More than 50 international experts in the field of clinical medicine and laboratory diagnostics will present state of the art lectures and more than 700 participants, both laboratory professionals and clinicians, from all over the world are expected and welcome. The Congress program includes scientific symposia, plenary lectures, poster sessions, debates, and educational workshops. Congress topics are selected to address hot issues of medicine, in areas such as cardiology, oncology, nephrology, neurology, endocrinology, transplantation, Warsaw at a Glance Warsaw is the capital and the largest city of Poland with more than 1.7 million inhabitants. It is located on the Vistula River, which is the Europe’s widest river, flowing through the centre of the city. This amazing city is full of contrasts, question marks and surprises. It will excite and inspire you. Warsaw is sometimes called “phoenix city” because immunology, microbiology, pediatrics, among others. Laboratory diagnostics at the clinical interface spans from next generation sequencing, assessment of cell free DNA, mass spectrometry, to point-of-care-testing for diagnosing and predicting disease as well as for guiding and monitoring therapy. We particularly encourage young physicians, laboratory professionals, scientists, and researchers to submit their work. All abstracts will be reviewed by an international evaluation committee and the best abstracts will be selected as oral presentations. There are reduced registration fees for all young scientists <35 years and travel bursaries are available to participate in the Congress. Sponsored workshops will give the diagnostic industry the opportunity to present their latest innovations to a specialist audience. Don’t miss this important event in the beautiful city of Warsaw. Book the dates, keep an eye on our website and find us on Facebook. We look forward to seeing you in the capital of Poland this September! Prof. Grazyna Sypniewska (EFLM, PTDL) President of the Congress and Organizing Committee Chair Prof. Eberhard Wieland (UEMS) Scientific Programme Committee Chair of its astonishing ability to arise from the ruins, which took places several times in its history. During World War II more than 80% of Warsaw was destroyed. The city and particularly its historical buildings were reconstructed and rebuilt, with as many original bricks as possible. Together with Old Town, Royal Route, Royal Łazienki Park and the Residence of Jan II Sobieski in Wilanów, Warsaw offers a lots of other historical places to visit, above and beyond it is full of parks, green places, outdoor cafes and a great many cultural places. That’s why it is one of the major international tourist destination in Central and Eastern Europe. The capital of Poland holds some of Europe’s best museums, including permanent exhibition in POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews – probably the most important cultural institution of that kind on the continent. The turbulent history of Warsaw may be experienced in the interactive Warsaw Rising Museum and if one is keen on music, the Fryderyk Chopin Museum gives an opportunity to take a journey into the past with the help of its ultramodern exhibitions. And let’s not forget about time for shopping. Department stores tempt with great bargains and little boutiques invite customers to have a look at unique Polish design.
