(continued from p. 32) Dinosaur World, Ringling Museum, Lakeland Air Museum, and many more. The club meets the first Sunday of every month at 2 pm at the Clubhouse Ballroom, followed by cards for those interested. On weeks when there is no meeting, the group gets together at 2 pm. for cards, same location. Also, the third Thursday of every month at the Pavilion at 4 pm, we gather to visit and have a drink and share snacks. The club again is starting to think of adopting for Christmas a few senior orphans (elderly residents in Polk County who have an extremely low income and no family to help). We received a lovely Thank You card from our Christmas in July gift-giving. All single residents in Lake Ashton are welcome to join us. Just drop in to a meeting or to cards. LAKE ASHTON FRIENDS OF MEALS ON WHEELS By Marcia Santino It is Fundraising Season, the time of year when worthy nonprofit organizations like Meals on Wheels of Polk County are appealing to the public for donations in support of their Service to the Community. Aligned with this initiative, Lake Ashton Friends of Meals on Wheels is once again sponsoring a month-long gift card/gift basket raffle fundraiser with proceeds benefitting MOWPolk. This year we are excited to announce Sheriff Grady Judd will be helping us kick off our campaign on Monday, October 13 in the Clubhouse Ballroom, 11-2 PM. Please see our advertisement in the Events section for complete details. Also tucked in this publication is a 2-sided flyer providing the entire list of generous raffle donors and the 52+ items being offered this year, including a “$10 Golden Ticket” item custom designed, handcrafted and donated by LA’s own George Powell. This Heirloom Quality Wooden Rocking Horse will be on display along with all other basket items during the kickoff event. Our Grand Finale to close the monthlong fundraiser will once again be a World Kindness Day Dance on Thursday, November 13 at the Clubhouse Ballroom from 7-10 pm featuring the music of 99 in the Shade. Tickets are on sale now, please see our advertisement in the Events section 34 for complete details. You will also be able to purchase tickets to the dance at the kickoff. If you are in need of services, interested in volunteering or would like to make a monetary charitable donation to MOWPolk, please call: 863-299-1616. LAVA AUXILIARY By Chris Graves The next LAVA Meeting will be October 15 at 6:30 pm in the Cinema. This is an exciting and important meeting. We will be finalizing the details for the upcoming Craft Fair on Saturday, October 25 from 9 am to 2 pm. It is SOLD OUT! Consider this is a call for volunteers to help throughout the day. CALL FOR BAKERS: Bakers! Bakers! Best way to have no calories when baking cookies, cakes and pies is to DONATE THEM to the Craft Fair! Last year the Baked Goods raised $1000 and our goal is to match that number. With your help we can do it! See you at the Craft Fair! God Bless America!
