LA COMMUNITY GARDEN By Lynn Davis and Karen McLemore The Lake Ashton Community Garden is thriving, and this season’s harvest is a true testament to the hard work of our members. Sweet potato leaves are ready for picking, while vibrant turmeric, glossy eggplant, hearty luffa (yes, the kind that becomes a natural sponge!), and the uniquely tangy Thai Roselle are all flourishing in the garden beds. Visitors will notice a new touch of organization too—each bed and plant is now clearly labeled, making it easier than ever to learn about what’s growing. Looking ahead, our gardeners are already preparing for Florida’s fall planting season, with members sharing ideas at the September meeting on what to grow next. And don’t miss a special highlight: Josh from Cody Cove will be joining us for a special presentation tentatively on a Friday in October (date to be determined). With growth, learning, and community at its heart, the garden is a place to celebrate every season. GARDEN CLUB By Pam Klawinski “Gene, The Barefoot Gardener” shared his knowledge with the Lake Ashton Garden Club last month on getting our gardens ready for Autumn. We had a wonderful Q&A session with him. Gene brought some free daffodil bulbs, plumeria seeds and seedlings to share with us along with several plants that were distributed for a small donation. The October meeting will be held Wednesday, October 8 in the Pavilion at 10 am. This month’s meeting will feature a presentation on planting herbs and edible plants. Please join us to gather some information and also to share your tips. Membership not required and no green thumb necessary. 35 LA DEMOCRATIC CLUB By Howard Mayne The Lake Ashton Democratic Club will hold their next monthly meeting Thursday October 2, in the HFC Community Center at 6:30 pm with social time at 6:00 pm.
