RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT By Marianne Zak Lake Ashton's own Lynne Judd and her husband Larry bought their home on Green Drive in 2006. They became full time residents in 2012, retiring from Long Island, New York. Lynne and Larry married in 1977 and both earned PhDs. They worked as school psychologists,as well as having private practices in therapy. They happily raised four children and are expecting their sixth grandchild in June. Lynne, always active in her community, was in the PTA for 23 years and proudly received both the Honorary Life and the NYS Distinguished Service awards. She was both a deacon and elder in her Long Island Presbyterian Church. As a Girl Scout leader for 15 years, her daughters received their Gold Awards in Girl Scouting while both of her sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. Lynne enjoys volunteering in Lake Ashton and other areas. She was a CAP member from 2012 until recently. For 5 years, she volunteered for "Give Kids the World" and volunteered for the Disney marathons for 8 years. She was a CERT member for 5 years and enjoyed volunteering for the Entertainment Series for 7 years. While learning pickleball, she and Larry started the Lake Ashton Pickleball Association (LAPA). They gave pickleball lessons and recruited new members. LA had only one pickleball court. She, Larry and the members of LAPA began fundraising to build more courts. She ran the LA Craft Fair for 5 years, did raffles, dinners, bake sales, sold hot dogs, and hosted tribute shows featuring Karen Carpenter and Neil Diamond acts. Her endeavors paid off, and more pickleball courts were built. Through her early vision, LAPA has now grown to six pickleball courts. Lynne is a devoted Disney fan and a collector of all things Disney. Her collection of festive Disney popcorn buckets is enormous. She has well over 60 buckets in her 15 collection. She even has popcorn buckets from Disney in Japan. Lynne, a Disney Vacation Club member, often enjoys DVC family vacations. Since 2023, Lynne has been the moderator of the LA "Magic Years Club". The club meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 pm in the HFC Craft Room. Club members plan Disney events and educate the members in all things Disney. With all Lynne does, "family is probably the most important thing in our lives". She arranges a large family trip every other year. Next summer she and Larry are renting a seven-bedroom B&B to visit Niagara Falls with their family. She enjoys Sunday trivia, Bok Tower events, Disney, cruising and the Lake Ashton Travel Club. Her boundless energy and enthusiasm makes her another reason why Lake Ashton is "Simply the Best" “Once Upon a Toy" was a success for Lake Ashton residents interested in nostalgic vintage Disney toys. Garrett Minster , last month’s resident spotlight, generously displayed his Disney toy collection prior to donating his entire collection to a museum in Orlando. Thank you to the residents who took the time to write notes of encouragement, sympathy, and gratitude to the family of Major Cody Khork.
