NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR TIMELESS LESSONS Courtesy of The Skally Boys! Seems like it’s working out the way it is supposed to… life is full of lemons and strikeouts, it’s what you do with them that matters most! BY CHRISTINA AND MATT SKALLY, TEAM SKALLY, NEWCASTLE RESIDENTS W e wanted to share a few of our recent experiences that reminded us of invaluable life lessons. Last month, we talked about borrowing vs. buying. This month we’re onto Lesson #2: Turning Lemons into Lemonade. Our oldest son Dominic’s lifelong dream has been to play college baseball. Trying to earn an opportunity to play a collegiate sport these days feels very much like a full-time job. Gone are the days of our childhood, when we played multiple sports (only during their proper season) and could be competitive. To help his chances of making his baseball dreams come true, Dominic, like many kids, chose to give up other sports and train all year round. So, at the ripe old age of 15, he hung up his football pads and basketball shoes and went all in with baseball. Seemed a bit young to go “all in” to us, but what do we know, we used to play street ball and “kick the can” back in the day. Over the last few years, Dominic has certainly progressed and performed well on the field and in the classroom. A handful of D1 schools were reaching out to him regularly and were scheduled Dominic fishing! 34 October 2023
