Hey there, my name is Max! I was surrendered to the shelter as I was being naughty in my previous home. I am slow to come around to strangers so a house where it’s just me and my family most of the time would be the best fit for me. I am curious about other dogs but I haven’t had any buddies here at the shelter yet. I chased chickens and didn’t like the cows in my previous home so I may be too much for cats! I would get along with older children who go slow with me. I love to have toys around to play with; my favorite ones are spikey balls that squeak! I enjoy a good butt scratch as all labs do and I am very smart too! I know how to sit, shake, take nice and get down. I keep my kennel clean and walk nice on the leash. I like to go for rides in the car too and it would be fun to run errands with you. I would like to meet you to see if I could be the boy for you! I can’t wait to get to know you and check out my new furrever home! Hello, HSL Supporters! Thank you for voting me in as your next Humane Society President! HSL is a great charity and the help we are doing for our community is very important. I am looking forward to the next two years of working with the board and a strong team of employees at our shelter as we work to make HSL reach new heights. I take the mission of our organization very seriously; placing animals in their forever homes, ensuring animal health, and assisting population numbers by spaying and neutering. Through these works we will help our communities and the animals who rely on us; nevertheless, we at HSL cannot do this alone. As a longtime supporter of HSL and a board member, I appreciated all of the support we receive and the love and passion that we all have for our animals. Each of you have made a difference in various ways–you are so appreciated! Additionally, I want to congratulate and thank Rachel Noland for her ongoing support and dedication to our shelter. I am excited to announce that Rachel has accepted the position of Shelter Manager for HSL. Rachel is a valuable team member and I know she will do great things in her new role. Hello and Happy New Year! First I want to say, I am thrilled to be the Manager of HSL! I first started my journey in March of 2009 and haven’t looked back. {The animals just get me ;)}. I look forward to 2021 being a fantastic year full of placing animals in the puuurfect home, helping stray animals find their way home, and providing great medical care to each animal that walks in the shelter door. We started out the year with a BANG! We had 10 animals find their furever homes within four days! We have been busy calling in cats and dogs from our wait list to get them ready for adoption! We are hoping to get back in the swing of things and be able to welcome volunteers back into the building! Thank you all for your support, I can not wait to welcome you all back into the shelter. Stay positive and keep smiling! Is your furry friend microchipped? Q: What is a microchip: A: A microchip is a radio-frequency identification transponder that carries a unique identification number for each animal. Q:What is the size of a microchip? A: A microchip is the size of a grain of rice Q: Where does the microchip go? A: The Microchip is inserted between the shoulder blades of an animal. Q: How long does it take? A: This process only takes a minute to do and then your animal has its own identification number! This chip is linked to your contact information. address, and phone number and can be updated simply by logging into your account or calling the microchip’s company. Q: Why should I get my animals microchipped? A: In the event that your animal was able to escape the safety of its home and found by someone that then brought your animal to a veterinary clinic or a shelter just like us, we immediately scan the entire body of the animal to locate a chip in hopes that we can reunite the animal with their owner. No matter where you live, this quick process can reunite you with your pet from across the world and get them home safe! Q.What is the cost? A: There is a $30 fee to get the microchip implanted and registered but no fees after that so your pet will be safe for a lifetime! Q: How do I set up an appointment for microchipping at HSL? A: Microchipping is available at the shelter by appointment. Give us a call at 218-847-0511 and ask for Sarah! REMI Remi is doing great and has become a big part of my life and my family! He adjusted well and loves being around my family and roommates. He is an amazing dog when I am with him or even another person he is familiar with, but when I leave him he can be destructive. This has become a strong learning curve for me and we are still working on it (training and baby proofing the house). Remi is an amazing dog and I am blessed to have him in my life. Some people consider him a lot of work and too much, but honestly, I believe that I need him just as much as he needs me. CASPER We kept the name Casper. He is 5.6 lbs now, and is full of energy! Bella, our Boston Terrier, just loves him. They get along so well. Glad we adopted him.
