Limited Edition
D-28 Louvin Brothers
The Louvin Brothers – Ira on mandolin and Charlie on guitar, singing
in soaring harmonies – were the stuff of legend. So, too, was their 1959
gospel LP Satan Is Real, in no small part because of the artwork that
made it one of the most talked-about albums of all time. Much more
elaborately staged than the typical LP photo shoot of the era, it
included a painted, 16-foot plywood depiction of the devil, set up
behind a giant pile of burning tires with Ira and Charlie posing
dramatically in the foreground. This classic album cover is
reproduced on the top of a very special C. F. Martin Limited Edition
– limited to 50 guitars total, and destined to become a legend in
its own right. Based on a 1955 D-28, it includes an Indian
rosewood body, Sitka spruce top, modern Modified Low Oval 13
4
” neck, and an inside label numbered in sequence and signed
by C. F. Martin IV and Charlie’s son Ken Louvin.
