SPOR T Netball • ISA regional netball - Under 16 semi-finalists; Under 14 semi-finalists; Under 13 bronze medallists • ISA netball nationals – Under 13s finished 9th in country The netball season has seen 56 games (inclusive of tournament matches) with 35 wins for our Year 7-11 teams. The School has many talented netballers coming through from Years 9-11, which has enabled Tettenhall College to field both an Under 16 A and B team. Of the matches they have played notable victories were against Wolverhampton Grammar School, St Dominic’s, Bedstone and Concord College. For the Under 16 A team, their season started back in September, where they represented the school in the Oswestry Invitational, finishing 3rd and going on to compete in the Midlands ISA competition. Winning six out of the seven matches in their group stage, the girls narrowly missed the final, having taken their semifinal to extra-time. The Under 14s have had a very positive season, opening with a dominating 21-9 win against St Dominic’s and closing it with a narrow 8-7 loss to WGS. They also entered their age group Midland ISA competition and reached the semi-final against Stafford Grammar. The game went goal for goal but we lost 8-7 on the whistle. The Under 12 netballers played their first ever year group matches in March, with all the eligible girls in the year representing the school, against Wolverhampton Girls’ High School and WGS where TC won one and lost one, respectively. Some of the Under 12s have strengthened the Under 13s who have had a fantastic season. They played 10 games this year, winning seven, and are maturing into very competent players. The season’s hard work resulted in a brilliant performance at the Midlands ISA competition, finishing third overall, securing a bronze medal and a place at the National Finals in May where they finished a highly respectable 9th. Cricket The Cricket 1st XI played five games this season with three convincing wins. We started the season with a close game against Newcastle-under-Lyme school followed by wins against both the XL Club and the Greenflies’ adult teams. Our season peaked during the OTs’ weekend, where we beat the Old Tettenhallians convincingly, for the second year in a row. Stand out performances this season have come from Finley Mayer (Year 9), opening the bowling consistently and doing an outstanding job, Cameron Watson (Year 12), with both bat and ball, along with Zak Shah (Year 11), bowling his way through the middle orders of teams. In our younger years, the season has been about building for the future. We have seen the valuable addition of Olivia Odell (Year 6) to our Under 13 team, as well as Davina Perrin (Year 7) carrying on her form from last year. Our Under 9s and Under 11s have also performed well throughout, competing in a number of Kwik Cricket tournaments over the season. With many impressive young players coming through, we are hopeful of a strong season next year! Joe McKaig, Year 12 45 45
