SPOR T Rounders • Under 13 team crowned Midlands Champions • Under 14 and Under 13 teams both undefeated The focus for the Preparatory School has been on developing understanding of the rules and skills, playing only friendly matches. Our Under 9s and Under 11s have played a number of matches with Gabriella Lewis and Olivia Odell demonstrating strong bowling and Daryl Koo recognised for his spectacular batting. Our senior rounders teams have played many local friendlies this season, with some strong results. Our current Under 13 and Under 14 teams remain undefeated, beating St Dominic’s, WGSB, Bedstone and Abbotsholme. The Under 13s also had a spectacular competition at the Midlands ISA Tournament beating Bedstone, Dodderhill, Malvern St James and Bowbrook House to be crowned Midlands Champions. Special mention go to Gursimran Dhaliwal, Molly McKaig and Davina Perrin who all received Player of the Match votes from their opposition. In the Under 15 ISA Tournament, TC narrowly lost out to Malvern St James by half a rounder and Bowbrook House by a rounder, however we beat the overall winners Dodderhill. The Under 15s have also played friendlies against Abbotsholme and St Dominic’s, beating St Dominic’s. The Under 18s drew their friendly against Wolverhampton Grammar School and the mixed team played strongly against Abbotsholme, with players of the match named as Peaches Burris-Rowe and Jack Pritchard. Under 13 rounders Swimming • Preparatory School: Sammy McDonnell (Year 6), Oscar Ward (Year 6) and Jamie Welch (Year 4) selected to represent the Midlands Region in the National Finals, held at the Olympic Swimming Pool, London. • Senior School: Ross Wontner represented the Midlands Region in the ISA National Finals. He achieved a personal best time, beating his previous by 13 seconds. When appointed as the new swimming teacher at Tettenhall College five years ago, my vision was to re-establish the swimming pool’s identity, by developing and producing competitive swimmers. Having gained the confidence and trust of the pupils and with the support of James Bullock, I was able to set up a Swimming Academy, which now runs four times a week. The success of the Academy and the individual successes of the swimmers has resulted in extra ‘Developers – Intermediate’ feeder groups being set up. Standout performers coming through are Joe Harris, Tom Curtis and Lydia Wynne. So popular is the Academy, that we now boast 10 ‘Club Swimmers’ (from 50 weekly swimmers) who are all hitting county qualifying times in their preferred strokes. Tracy Bate, Swimming Coach 46
