Boarding This year we have welcomed new staff to the boarding houses. Emma Howard, our girls’ Boarding Housemistress, has quickly shown her caring and welcoming attitude, her will to help everyone as much as possible and her passion to make sure every girl fulfils her potential. Gareth Howard, the new Head of Music, has inspired many boarders to start or advance their musical skills. Bethany Lakin comes with a background in performing arts and has become very involved with boarding events and engaging the boarders in all aspects of school life, including dance and drama. Gabby Spanos, our Australian gap year student, has been a great support to the girl boarders and helping with PE, games and Preparatory School. The boarders have once again been at the forefront of school life, contributing substantially towards school events, including the school musical, music performances, choir events, the Christmas carol service, house competitions, chapel services, assemblies, mock trials, OT events and the maths challenge – to name a few! The tradition of boarders supporting charity events continued with their invaluable involvement in the annual charity Santa Run and the Dragon Boat event. Some boarders are tutors and mentors of day pupils both in Senior and Preparatory School; they are always giving of their time and want to help others as best they can. Boarders have enjoyed a variety of trips and activities through the year. The international food festival was excellent with meals cooked from each corner of the world. Easter Egg hunts, a pantomime trip, visits to London, Oxford, Manchester, a casino night, pamper nights, Bonfire night, meals out, and the ever-popular go-karting and paintballing trips all encourage the pupils to experience much beyond the classroom and cement lifelong friendships. So now, sadly, we say goodbye to some of our boarders as they go off to the world’s best universities, but we look forward to welcoming our new ones in September.
