MUSIC AND PERFORMING AR TS Inspirational London Festival Orchestra A dozen senior musicians enjoyed an inspiring evening of music from the London Festival Orchestra at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. The programme consisted of film music by composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer and Alan Silvestri and explored the drama and excitement of soundtracks from Sci-Fi and Action films, completed by the accompaniment of lazers and fireworks. There is no better way to get inspiration for our own musical compositions. Remembering Our Soldiers Singing in the Community The choir has spread the joy with plenty of trips out into the community, including Christmas Carols at Sunrise Living for the elderly, and singing to support Compton Care. House Singing The inaugural House Singing Competition at Tettenhall College was a special opportunity to witness every member of Year 3-13 taking part with their houses on the stage in Towers Theatre. The pupils presented a great variety of songs from Blondie to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! With live musical accompaniment from Andreea Belebrov, Vicky Tran, Marta Gniecka and Seth Young, the event gave the pupils the chance to stretch their vocal abilities beyond what many thought possible. Well done to Senior School winners, Pearson, for their superb rendition of Seasons of Love and Preparatory School winners, Haydon, for their infectious Lion Sleeps Tonight. 36 The 100 year anniversary of the end of the First World War was marked respectfully across the School with a two-minute silence and the faultless rendition of The Last Post by Year 8 pupil, Reito Mori. Staff, pupils and OTs also attended the Old Tettenhallian remembrance service in the School Chapel. In a moving service, they paid their respects to those who fought in the wars, including OTs who served their country. A Piano Recital by Alexander Arenare ‘An incredible night at Tettenhall College for all aspiring pianists’, writes, Andreea Belobrov (Year 13) Alexander Arenare is a role model for any young musician. Having started learning the piano at the age of 5, Arenare is currently studying at Trinity College of Music in London. In his short career to date he has been awarded the Fred Southhall prize, been placed runner-up in the Sonata Class at the Birmingham Piano Festival and has achieved the DipABRSM performance diploma. For the recital, Arenare chose some of the most prevalent names in the history of music – Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert - interpreting with skill and understanding. It was an incredible night at Tettenhall College for all aspiring pianists and musicians, as well as for any spectators with an affinity for classical music. We were very thankful to the Parents’ Association, without whose generous donation of a Broadwood piano this evening would not have taken place.
