PREP ARA TOR Y SCHOOL Hollowford Adventure The beautiful Peak District village of Castleton welcomed us warmly and the sun shone at Hollowford for the three days of our Year 5 and 6 outdoor adventure. Children threw themselves, sometimes quite literally, into their activities, from rock scrambling to caving, high ropes to canoeing and everything in between. Cliffs were scaled, rafts were built and new skills were acquired. More importantly, challenges were faced and many fears conquered. As one of the instructors always says, Hollowford is not about having fun, it’s about having a personal upgrade. Pupils are asked “Are you a better person after being here?” I think the answer was a resounding yes! Mel Lofting – Assistant Head (Preparatory School) Residential Inspires Young Poets In Year 4, we combined our English topics with the Pioneer Centre Residential. We used haiku poetry to write about our experiences. We also linked the trip to our persuasive writing tasks by creating letters to other schools to recommend they go to the Pioneer Centre. Adam Tarte, Year 4 Teacher Abseiling Haiku Try your best. Deep breath… Be brave! Feet straight! Lean backwards. Hold the rope and go. Ava-Rose Shortland, Year 4 First Residential Year 2 pupils enjoyed their first overnight trip together, embracing a wide range of activities, including bushcraft, climbing and caving on offer at Laches Wood. They spent precious time in the great outdoors, focussing on teamwork, listening, problem solving and plenty of action - all in a beautiful environment. This first-step in our programme of residential trips, enables pupils to face challenges, take risks and have fun with their friends and is a powerful way to cement relationships, learn about cooperation and think about the environment.
