Louisiana makes it six in a row at Jr. River Cup The 11th Annual Junior River Cup Matches were won by Team Louisiana as the group marked its sixth win in a row against Team Mississippi. This year’s event was held at Calvert Crossing Golf Club in Calhoun, La. Team Louisiana finished with 22 points to defeat Team Mississippi by four points. Both teams entered the final day with 10 points after tying in four-ball matches as well as foursome matches. Louisiana owns the all-time series, 6-5.The winning team got 2.5 points in the 10-11 boys group as Andrew Sawrie (Bossier City) won and Parker Greene (Mandeville),Wayne Kabrich (Mandeville) and Hudson Green (Bossier City) all tied their singles matches. Sophia Macias (Denham Springs) also tied her match for a half point in the girls division. In the boys 12-13 group, Hudson Partin (Denham Springs), Logan Heltz (Abita Springs) and Ben Blanco (Broussard) all won their matches. In the 14-15 boys division, Drew Sliman (Lafayette) won his match and Ashton Cruse (Columbia) and James Holtsclaw (Shreveport) tied their matches to account for 2.5 more points. Louisiana’s boys in the 16-18 division did not lose a single match as Riley Hnatyshyn (Abita Springs), Ethan Dial (Shreveport), Noah McWilliams (Benton) and Eli Hill (Bossier City) posted victories. Hill was making his seventh River Cup appearance, which is tops all-time in the series. Other members of the winning team were Sarah Meral (Abita Springs), Isabella Callaba (Lake Charles), Aubrey Stark (Abita Springs),Willie Johnson (Baton Rouge), Slayte Guidry (Logansport) and Grant Reagan (Shreveport). Louisiana Golf Association Director of Championship Operations Jacob Oaks was the captain for Team Louisiana. The Junior River Cup, established in 2011, is an annual Ryder Cup style event conducted by the Louisiana Golf Association and the Mississippi Golf Association. Each team consists of 20 total players, with four players each in the following age groups: Girls 13-18, Boys 10-11, Boys 12-13, Boys 14-15, Boys 16-18. The two teams play four-ball (better-ball) and foursome (alternate shot) match-play on Saturday.
