Volunteers needed for the Chitimacha La. Open Qualifier The Gulf States PGA is looking for volunteers for the Chitimacha Louisiana Open Qualifier on March 15 at OakWing Golf Club and Links on the Bayou, which are both in Alexandria, La. LAWSON,BEALE VICTORIOUS AT DOUBLE BLACK DIAMOND SUPERINTENDENT’S REVENGE TOURNEY A total of 52 teams participated in the Jan. 23 The Club at Diamondhead (Miss.) Double Black Diamond Superintendent's Revenge. The overall champions were Jack Lawson and Nick Beale.The winning duo shot a 64 in the Corbet’s Flight. Four teams tied for first (74) in the GOAT Flight (Joe Cabaniss/Ced Smith, Bobby Cotie/Edward Craig, Darian Fuslier/Troy Lewis and Richard Willis/Tom Begley).Three teams tied (77) atop the Palisades Flight (Quintin Spencer/Zach Frenchy, James Renthrop/Gilbert Rubensack and Larry Sowden/Rudy Gonzales). Chad Curtis and Dwayne Braud won the Rambo Flight with a 79. Evan Ladler and Nathan Wollard shot 85 to win the Black Hole Flight. GOLF AMBASSADOR HESTER PASSES AWAY Kathy Hester, whose passion for golf and in particular women’s golf, passed away on Jan. 9 after a five-year battle with cancer. Hester was born in Jena, La. on April 30, 1952. She was a Class A LPGA Teaching professional at Selman Field Golf Course (Monroe, La.), Riverside Golf Course (West Monroe, La.), Boeuf River Country Club (Rayville, La.) and Clear Creek Golf Club (Vicksburg, Miss.) before opening her own Guaranteed Golf School in Vicksburg. She was a pioneer for female golf in Mississippi as she was instrumental in the state getting girls high-school golf in the early 2000s.
