Jacks named GSPGA Professional of the Year The Gulf States PGA awarded its chapter winners for this year with Baton Rouge Country Club Head Professional Bobby Jacks being named Professional of the Year. "I am very honored to be nominated as Golf Professional of the Year," said Jacks, who currently serves as Vice President of the GSGPA Louisiana Chapter. "I have many mentors that have helped me get to where I am today, but more importantly I would like to thank Baton Rouge Country Club for providing me the opportunity six years ago to be their Head Professional.” In recognition of his continued efforts to grow the game of Bobby Jacks golf at the youth level, Greystone Golf and Country Club Director of Golf Chris Burkstaller has been awarded the 2019 Gulf States PGA Youth Player Development Award. This award acknowledges the recipient's passion to promote the game by sharing knowledge and skills with today's youth, benefiting the future of golf in the GSPGA. Matt Williamson (Head Professional at TPC Louisiana in Robbie Gueringer — Head Professional at OakWing Golf Club in Alexandria, La. — was named the recipient of The Patriot Award for the Gulf States Section.This award is presented to a PGA Professional who personifies patriotism through the game of golf and demonstrates unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who have valiantly served and protected the United States of America. V.J.Trolio (PGA Teaching Professional at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.) earned his fourth GSPGA Teacher of the Year Award.This award recognizes the recipient's exceptional teaching ability and dedication to teaching the game. Avondale) has been chosen as this year's Horton Smith Award winner, acknowledging his commitment to furthering the education of fellow professionals. Mike Raby (Director of Golf at BREC Golf Facilities in Baton Rouge, La. metro area) has been selected as the Bill Strausbaugh Award winner in recognition of his leadership and valued involvement with the community.
