Hart duo victorious at mixed-team event The Mississippi Golf Association's State Mixed Team Championship was planned to be a two-day event at Cleveland (Miss.) Country Club, but Mother Nature had other ideas. Rain forced the male-female team event to be reduced to one round as Alan and Lou Hart (Meridian) recorded a 10-under-par 62 to win the championship flight by one stroke over Glenn Patrick (Madison) and Lucy Nunn (Hattiesburg). Robert Willis and Brett Adair Kyle (Grenada) were third after a 7-under-par 65. The lone round of this championship took place on Oct. 26. In the second flight, Rickey and Pam Bates (Ripley) carded a one-under-par 71 for the one-shot victory over Mark Koonce (Cleveland) and Susan Morgan (Boyle). Billy and Becky Nowell (Cleveland) were third with an even-par 72. Chris and Aimee Taylor (Cleveland) won the the third flight with a 77. Billy and Gai Davis (Cleveland) were second at 78 and Keith and Collins Phelps (Clarksdale) were third at 78. Web: www.missgolf.org MISSISSIPPI GOLF ASSOCIATION’S WILLIAM EARL 'W.E.' MORGAN CUP MATCHES The Mississippi Golf Association posted a 16-8 victory over the Gulf States PGA team in the William Earl ‘W.E.’ Morgan Cup Matches on Nov. 2-3 at Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville. The MGA team won the singles matches by five points (8.5-3.5) and never looked back as is also won the foursome matches, 4-2, and the four-ball matches, 3.5-2.5, en route to the victory.
