“No dear”, I had to admit ignorance. “He was the seventh governor of Alaska. And this trail is named after him” The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail follows the shore from downtown Anchorage to Kincaid Park. Running along coastal marshes, over forested hills, and passing one of the most dramatically altered landscapes of Anchorage – the Earthquake Park., the trail is perfect for biking, walking, and even wildlife viewing. Our starting point was marked with a sign “0 Mile, total length 11 miles, much to the chagrin of my wife Su who best enjoys her vacations, curled up in a hammock. The trail was a vantage point for great views of Mount Susitna, also known as Sleeping Lady. It was a clear, balmy autumn day with temperature in mid 50s, and we could see the snow-covered Denali loom on the horizon. As we trudged along, we started appreciating the benches along the way, but unfortunately, the only bathroom facilities were in the wild. Denali Across the Bay After 6 miles, we reached the site of the worst damage from the 1964 earthquake. This point is known as Earthquake Park. It was already past noon, and we decided to call for a cab to return to our hotel. Dinner that evening was at the famed seafood restaurant – Simon and Seaforts. We had no trouble finding our way on foot, as the downtown area was set in a grid with rational numbering. The service and ambience at the restaurant were exceptional and their Halibut dishes were out of the world! Simon and Seafort For the next day we had booked a global private tour service called “Tours by Locals”. This way we planned to dodge the dreaded virus and enjoy a customized trip. Jason was a very pleasant and energetic driver. He took us in his comfortable Ford Expedition down Seward Highway. This 127-mile-long highway is highly esteemed for its scenic, natural, historical, and recreational values. The first 50 miles stretch southeast from Anchorage skirting the base of the Chugach Mountains and the shore of Turnagain Arm. In about an hour, we reached a rocky promontory called Beluga Point where it's common to sight beluga whales. UPAHAAR 2021 উপহার ১৪২৮ 17
