Sophomore Basketball Front Row: Gene Wilkerson, Dave Hernandez, John Lynch, Randy Wall, Ralph Becicka, John Goodlove, Back Row: Coach Mattice, Pat Milke, John Elliff, Duane Moore, Kevin Pidama, Manager Rick Petrik. The Sophomore basketball team under the coaching of Mick Mattice surprised most people by winning the E.C.I.C. championship and producing a good season. After a good turn out, several players dropped the team cutting the squad down to ten boys. After a slow start, the boys won five of their last seven games. Tri-captains, Ralph Becicka, Randy Wall, and John Goodlove led the team in leadership while Gene Wilkerson continued to lead the team in points for most of the season. It is now in the record books that the ’74-’75 sophomore basketball team was one of the finest ever and champions of their league. Tri-captains: Ralph Becicka, Randy Wall, John Goodlove. 100 Two points for Prairie.

Girls In Action Concentration. Getting good position . Co-captains - Julie Jansa and Lori Westrom. The girls varsity basketball team, under the Nabbing the tip. coaching of Mr.Twaddle and his Assistant, Mrs. Everett, produced a winning season. A 12-10 record, stood as one of the best in the metro area Placing second in the metro tournament, again proved them as a power in their area. Senior, Lori Westrom, was named to the All Metro team after the completion of the season. Lori, along with senior Julie Jansa, combined to serve as co-captains. Many underclassmen played on the varsity and junior varsity teams, which represented the strength and depth the team had. These factors promise the future for girls basket ball at Prairie to be very rewarding - . Warming up for the game. 102

Under the coaching of Roger Freeman and Gary Leeper the Prairie boys track team completed the season with a very successful record. Perhaps the greatest win for any boys track team at Prairie was the E.C.I.C. Out - door Meet when the champions weren’t decided until the final race. Four seniors led the team throughout the season. The remainder of the team consisted of mostly freshman and sophomores, with only a few juniors. With this fact in mind, Mr. Freeman smiles when talking about future track squads. The girls tennis team established itself as a great team in the spring of ’75. After starting slow, by losing their first three matches, they came back to win their next eight matches. A final record of 9-4 proved to be the best in Prairie’s history. Seniors, Julie Jansa and Jeanine Halva, sparked the team’s success. The two teamed up to go undefeated throughout the duel season. In districts they captured the doubles crown, enabling Prairie to take second place in the team totals. Julie and Jeanine then took fourth place in the state meet the next week in Sioux City. A satisfying season and a promising future will be with the girls tennis team forever. A well pleased coach! WOW! Fourth in the state! Keep smiling! 120

7' Hell-o, everyone I know , who, like me, places flowers in a glass bowl, and lives his life paying a toll to see them. Tomorrow I will be eighteen. My mother gave me one last swat as a boy. I dreamed of passing telephone poles and where I’ ve been . Then I saw, as the wind and sky see, everything in it’s place. The guardian at the gate , that once opened , as it is. The way things are, exist , for we be all, the guardians at the gates. The future calls me. As rain it comes, wanted or not, but like rain, it leaves puddles and flowers , which , if wanted, is up to you. If we’re not on the same level, let it pass, for that is the way of a good quarterback . When no one is open throw it out of bounds. Stop the clock , but not this game. I do wish to tell you something, perhaps I build mystic, or I know nothing, God is old as earth. it bothers me. If you really loved me, you would not have taught me to think. Many things ask for time in my mind. I could write much. Man created all divisions, not me. This collection of cells was trapped.
