2. Marriage is the mystery of the Unity of Christ and the Church EPHESIANS 5:31-32 says, “For this cause shall man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” For one to have a full understanding of what the Scriptures call “one flesh”, they must first understand the relationship between Christ and the church. Much as from man came woman, and so did the church from Christ, the distinction is laid out in the sacrifice that Jesus died for the church [JOHN 19:30], whereas for man, he did not take up or mediate on behalf of woman [GENESIS 3:12]. This is the reason as to why we draw the mystery of marriage from the Unity, Relationship and the Love of Christ and the Church. 3. Marriage is witnessed by God GENESIS 2:22 says, “Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.” Here we see that God Himself officiated and witnessed the marriage between man and woman, so does He still do today. 4. Marriage is blessed by God In GENESIS 2:24 God said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” This Page | 14
