men we proved [ourselves] to be among you for your good.β We therefore saw in the Scriptures demons which had entered into various people scream when they confronted Jesus Christ, as we know that the devil had continued as usual to torment people [man] until when Jesus Christ [the Offspring spoken of by God] came, the distinction with Jesus Christ from man is that Jesus Christ knew who He was, and yet man although fallen, if he had only known who he was would not have accepted to be enslaved by the devil, as even though both of them fell, he [was] higher than the devil in ranking and so even on earth would be the same [what is done in heaven is done on earth].
