Because it was possible for them to be released from captivity but still hold the same mentality of bondage. Therefore we see the preaching of the gospel was far beyond the release of the captives [man], to their salvation [The redemption of man from the bondage of sin and liability to eternal death, and the conferring on him of everlasting happiness [eternal life]]. We also see that in one way or another the preaching of the Gospel [TRUTH] sets men free as it has its own inherent power, as 1 THESSALONIANS 1:5 says “For our [preaching of the] glad tidings (the Gospel) came to you not only in word, but also in [its own inherent] power and in the Holy Spirit and with great conviction and absolute certainty [on our part].
