2020 SMALL BUSINESS SUCCESS AWARDS — NJSBDC | 25 2020 Small Business Awardee NJSBDC TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALIZATION SPECIALTY Sonica Imaging Dr. Etienne Bachmann Dr. Gregory Davies Princeton University, Department of Geosciences Guyot 317 Princeton, NJ 08544 609-258-4101 NJSBDC Technology Commercialization Specialty Consultant Randy Harmon assisted Sonica Imaging of Princeton University in applying for and winning a $200,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) Partnerships for Innovation (PFI) grant award. The grant will support the demonstration and prototyping of a new ultrasound-based MRI-quality medical imaging device. The technology produces high-resolution, 3D tomographic images with quantitative tissue properties. This technique can complement existing imaging tools, such as MRI and CTscans, and replace them in some applications. Potential benefits accruing from Sonica Imagings technology innovation include higher accuracy cancer screening; improved patient experiences and outcomes by reducing unnecessary follow-up procedures and misdiagnosis; and the provision of safer, non-ionizing, sedative free imaging. NJSBDC Specialty Consultant Randy Harmon connected with the team through a seminar that he was invited to give at the University by the Princeton Entrepreneurship Council in June 2019. The Sonica Imaging Team had previously completed the full NSF I-Corps entrepreneur boot camp program. NJSBDCs Technology Commercialization Specialty Program, through its Senior Consultant Harmon, reviewed, critiqued and made suggestions for strengthening Sonicas draft grant proposal. According to Gregory Davies of Sonica Imaging, Randys advice was integral in helping us to focus and strengthen our grant proposal, in addition to providing useful insights in how to be successful during the grant period As time goes on, NJSBDC will continue to support and assist with Sonicas future growth needs. 2012029 v2 NJSBDC 2020 Awards Book_TEXT.indd 23 12/10/20 3:24 PM
