LAVA AUXILIARY By Chris Graves We hope everyone had a wonderful summer. The next meeting of the LAVA Auxiliary will be on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Clubhouse Ballroom near the stage. We will be reviewing “behind the scenes” of what makes the Annual Craft Fair successful … YOU! SAVE THE DATE: The Craft Fair is scheduled for Saturday, October 25. This year’s Craft Fair will benefit K9 Partners for Patriots The words "K9 Partners for Patriots" clearly identifies the organization and its mission. The service dog placing its paw on the veteran signifies the partnership between the veterans and their service dogs. Please see below on information on how you can help us raise money for this Veteran Charity. BAKERS NEEDED FOR THE CRAFT FAIR: Thanks to our generous Lake Ashton Residents we sold more than $1000 in baked goods at last year’s Craft Fair. Again, we are asking residents to consider donating baked goods to be sold at this year’s Craft Fair. For those bakers that might be calorie conscious, there are no calories when you give away your yummy baked goods.! LAKE ASHTON FRIENDS OF MEALS ON WHEELS By Marcia Santino The end of the year is fast approaching and it is not too early to begin planning 2025 income tax strategies. A charitable contribution to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization such as Meals on Wheels of Polk County is an effective way to reduce your tax burden and improve the lives of others in our community. Something to consider is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (“QCD”), also known as an IRA Charitable Rollover. A QCD is a tax-advantaged way for anyone over 70½ to donate to charity directly from a Traditional IRA (your own or inherited), inactive Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) plan or inactive Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees (SIMPLE). QDCs are made directly to the eligible charity from the provider (custodian) and never pass through the individual (donor). As a result, the QCD amount is excluded from the donor's taxable income, which can be particularly advantageous for those who don't itemize deductions. An additional bonus of a QCD is it may also satisfy all or part of an individual’s Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year. Meals on Wheels of Polk County receives no government funds. It depends on the generosity of the community for existence. In 2024 it delivered over 122,500 nutritious meals, fellowship and wellness checks to more than 1,250 individuals. A charitable contribution to MOWPolk ensures your dollars will benefit the homebound of Polk County and would be gratefully accepted and greatly appreciated. If you are in need of services, interested in volunteering or would like to make a monetary charitable donation to MOWPolk, please call: 863-299-1616. To become a member of the LAFOMOW Club please email lafomow@gmail.com. Next Second Chance Donation Day is September 18. Note: This is not financial advice. If you are considering a charitable donation, a CPA or financial advisor can help you minimize your tax liability and maximize the value and impact of your gift by choosing the right strategy or combination of strategies for your situation. 30
