LA NINERS By Sandy Hockenberry LALGA By Beverly Hines A brief survey was sent to members in July with a deadline of August 19 to return completed forms. Highlights of the survey results should be available to share in the October LA Times. As seniors, we are at a greater risk of dehydration than other age groups. Dehydration on the golf course can happen quickly, especially in the hot humid weather. Excessive sweating can accelerate dehydration, so don’t wait until the end of your round to replace fluids. Instead, drink a little water or water enhanced with electrolytes throughout your round to help avoid dehydration. Most experts agree that water, electrolytes and carbohydrates in the correct combination are essential for hydration. A recent Golf Digest article suggests “consume 4 to 8 ounces of fluid with electrolytes every 15 – 20 minutes”. Being adequately hydrated could help you golf game too, muscles function much better when you are fully hydrated. September games will include: September 3: Convert One Hole to Par (individual game) September 10: Pink Ball Shamble Two Best Nets (team game) September 17: Individual Low Gross/Low Net (individual game) September 24: Modified Alternate Shot game) Applications for the 2024 – 2025 season are available at the Pro Shop. $30.00 dues and registration application are due by October 1st. All members must have a golf membership and dues paid before participating in the LA Niners’ league. An application and check for $30.00 must be given to the Pro Shop PRIOR to playing. Opening Day is set for October 1, we hope to see all the Niners there for golf, lunch at the Eagles Nest and fun celebration! September is a 30-day-long goodbye to summer, to the season that is leaving everybody both happy and weary of the warm and humid weather. It is also midseason for the most active time for hurricane development. If there is inclement weather before league play begins, the Pro Shop along with the LALGA President or Tournament Chair determines whether play will be delayed or canceled. Everyone stay safe! September LALGA events: September 3 – Individual Play – Flighted, ABCD, payouts for low gross and low net September 10 – Team Play 4-Person Scramble – ABCD pairings, play the same 9 holes twice with payout for team low net – Lunch at the Eagles Nest following play September 17 – Individual Play – Flighted Ringer, play 9 holes taking your gross and net score then play the same 9 holes and take the better of the gross and net score. Payout for low gross and low net September 24 – Team Play 4-Person Scramble – ABCD randomly paired, play the same 9 holes twice, payout for team low net A Golfer’s Blessing (team May your drives be long and straight, May your putts be short and true, and, May there ever be a bit of green grass under every lie.
