The Health & Fitness Center continues its tradition of bringing awareness to breast cancer throughout the month of October. To begin with, we encourage LA residents who attend exercise classes in the month of October to wear pink clothing to all exercise classes, and a chance to win a gift certificate. The HFC’s annual breast cancer awareness walk is also taking place on October 3, beginning at 9 am, with a short walk route and a longer walk route. The HFC will award medals to the first three finishers in each category during a special breakfast brunch for walk participants. Please stop by the HFC to register for the walk. Residents who wish to make donations can drop off (checks only) made payable to Breast Cancer Foundation of Central Florida throughout the month. The HFC also features a Wall of Honor where names of LA residents or family members who have been affected by breast cancer can be displayed behind the HFC’s activity desk during the month of October. LA residents simply need to let HFC personnel know of name(s) of those people they would like to honor. Residents are also encouraged to stay tuned for more updates and pop-up events throughout October, as the HFC is committed to fostering both awareness and community spirit. Whether participating in a group walk, attending a lively performance, or sharing the names of loved ones on the Wall of Honor, there are many ways to get involved and show support. The month promises to be filled with opportunities to connect, reflect, and make a positive impact. For further details or questions regarding any of these activities, residents can contact the HFC team, who are always happy to help. Upcoming events at the HFC include Durham and Company for a lively Friday night dance on October 10, and back by popular demand is Brenda and the Smoking 45’s who will be performing on October 24 for Fright Night, where costumes are optional. You can reserve a table for either event at the HFC Activities Desk. These BYOB events are also pay at the door admission. Be sure to mark your calendar for the Board of Supervisors LA II CDD meeting on October 16, 2025, at 9:00 am. With enthusiasm and compassion, the HFC looks forward to welcoming everyone, whether you are a longtime participant or new to the community. Together, each gesture, each step, and each word of encouragement carries solidarity that makes these events so impactful. Let us continue to uplift one another this October and beyond. 10
