We’ve been told that if we eat fat, we will gain fat; but it’s just not that simple. It is true that fat provides most of the fuel that our cells will burn for energy, but our body will burn carbohydrates before it burns fat in an effort to keep our blood sugar levels down. That’s because carbohydrates cause a spike in our blood sugar level which can lead to all kinds of problems in the body by piling up in places where it doesn’t belong, such as the heart, arteries and the liver. Impairing normal function, causing damage, and increasing your risk for heart disease, fatty liver, etc. Choose fiber-rich good carbs, like whole-grain breads and cereals, unprocessed grains, beans, wholewheat pasta, fruit, yogurt, vegetables. Limit simple sugars like candy, cake, soda, and highly processed or fried foods. MAH JONGG Mah Jongg players with one to two years or more experience are sought to join our group that meets on Wednesday afternoons at the HFC from 2 - 4 pm. This group is not on hiatus during the summer! For further information, contact Myrna Soberman at myrnaandsteve@gmail.com.
