MIND&BODY ASL CLASSES American Sign Language Classes began September 6 with the Beginning Class Tuesdays at 1 pm and Intermediate at 2 pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom. Email shelleyknee@gmail.com to be added to the class list. Beginning class will be using an easy book called "Signing For Kids" by Mickey Flodin. For new students: beginner class won’t go too fast, but you will have to do your part and practice between lessons. Questions? Contact Shelley at 864-363-2014. FLU SHOTS Protect yourself this flu season by getting your flu shot. Walgreens will be facilitating vaccinations on Mondays October 24 and November 14 from 8:30 to 10 am in the Clubhouse Ballroom. Bring your insurance card. CLASSICAL MUSIC APPRECIATION / MUS IC HISTORY SERIES Join Ken Hoffman, a retired Lake Ashton resident who has taught classical music history courses for nearly a decade at various institutions including the Continuing Education Department at the University of North Florida, as he takes residents through the history of classical music chronologically, starting with the Medieval era, going to the mid-20th century. Hundreds of great musical works will be explained as well as the lives of the composers who wrote them. Residents will discuss music in the context of the other arts of the era, as well as historical events that influenced the arts; politics, wars, religion, science and technology, the rise of the middle class, the Enlightenment, etc. Sign up at the Clubhouse Information Wall as space is limited. This class will be held Mondays at 3 pm in the Clubhouse Cinema, starting October 3. CAREGIVERS SUPPORT An all-encompassing Caregiver Support Group facilitated by the Alzheimer's Association will be held on the third Tuesday of each month through December, beginning October 18 at 11 am in the Clubhouse Ballroom. This group is for Caregivers and Care partners of people living with Alzheimer's, Dementia, Parkinson's, ALS, Cancer, and Diabetes. People who are living with the disease are welcome to attend with their care partner. We will meet together for approximately 30 minutes and then the group will split into two separate groups with two separate facilitators. This support group is conducted by trained facilitators and is a safe place for everyone to develop a support system. Exchange practical information on challenges and possible solutions, talk through issues and ways of coping, share feelings, needs, and concerns, and learn about community resources. Sign up at the Clubhouse Information Wall. Save the date for the meeting on November 15 at 11 am in the Clubhouse Ballroom. WHAT'S THE BUZZ ABOUT BEES? We are buzzing with excitement to announce that the Think & Drink activities are coming back to the Clubhouse! Join friends and neighbors on November 18 at 6 pm to find out the buzz about bees. Enjoy a fun yet educational presentation on honey bees from our friends at Happy Hives. Learn how honey is collected and processed for use in different products, the art of beekeeping, and how mighty of an impact small honey bees have on our environment. Don't forget to BYOB.
