CLUBS LA PICKLEBALL By Sue Morris We are entering into fall and many snowbirds are returning to beautiful Lake Ashton. There are quite a few players that are regulars and new people wanting to try their hand at pickleball. Here is a quick 10 Spor tsmanship Guide Basics: 1. Treat all players and spectators with courtesy and respect. 2. Do not interrupt others that are playing. 3. Know the official rules of pickleball, apply them fairly and cooperate in any situation that is not expressly covered by the rules. 4. Practice good sportsmanship when making line calls. Respect your opponents’ right to make all calls on their end of the court. 5. Call a fault on your partner as soon as the fault occurs regardless of whether your opponents are aware of the fault. 6. Rotate on and off courts fairly, courteously and in accordance with local practice. 7. Make safety a priority, while using common sense. 8. As a stronger player in social play, be kind to other players. 9. Be considerate about playing up and playing down. 10.Be a respectful and supportive partner. Go online to USA PICKLEBALL Sportsmanship Guide, for the full guide. Tuesday and Thursday mornings, starting at 7:30 am till 9:00 am, on courts 1 and 2, are a fun and easy group of men and women players. It is for beginners and intermediate players. Please come down and join the fun! Watch for email blasts from the HFC when classes are offered. Look on YouTube for great videos on how to play. Court shoes are a must for safety. Water, sunglasses and visors or hats are recommended. 34 LA Pickleball Association Officers: President Chuck Caesar Vice President Sue Morris Treasurer Lisa Savala Secretary Becky Wilson Email: lakeashtonpickleball@gmail.com LAVA AUXILIARY By Chris Graves The meeting this month is October 19 at 6:30 pm in the ballroom near the stage. Anyone considering joining this group is invited to come by. It will be a wonderful opportunity to experience the generosity of the resident members and of course, your VP here is about smiles. We will be reviewing set up, break down times and need volunteers to assist at the Craft Show on October 22. We will also be discussing other volunteer opportunities. We had a lot of fun working with the vendors last year. They were appreciative of our assistance helping them bring in their crafts. The 2022 Craft Show is October 22, just a few weeks away, and bakers are needed! The Craft Show Bake Shop was very successful last year. The top items sold were cookies, banana bread or other loaf breads (large or small). Pies and cakes were also popular. In addition, we invite you to support our vendors. Call Chris at 863- 514-5368 or Joan at 239-851-7899. LAVA VIDEO INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITY LAVA is hosting a video interview team from the Library of Congress on October 8 and 9 to interview local veterans. You do not need to be a LAVA member to be interviewed. Interviews are open to veterans of all branches and ranks, whether or not they served in a combat zone. Interviews will be held in the Clubhouse Card Room. Veterans wishing to be interviewed must have an appointment. Contact LAVA coordinator Cal Posner at calposner@aol.com or 678-464-7331. There is no charge for the interviews and they will be available to the public at the library’s website under the “Veterans History Project” tab.
