LA PICKLEBALL By Dennis Santino Events Open to All Residents - Come Check Us Out! On November 13 we are having a Lake Ashton Day of Kindness Mortimer Mixer. On November 21 LAPA is sponsoring a community dance to celebrate the new sports courts. All Lake Ashton residents are invited to come out for an evening with DJ Wayne. Tickets are $10 each. You may also reserve an entire table for an additional $10. Make checks out to LAPA.Net proceeds will go to charity and there will be a lot of Door Prizes! A costume mixer was also held October 31. The LAPA Annual Meeting has been moved to January 2026. The date of the meeting will be shared by email as the date gets closer. The annual dues for 2026 are being raised to $15 dollars (an increase of 25 cents per month). The Newbie clinics have resumed and keep an eye out for more skills clinics in November. It is wonderful to see Linda and Vivian’s groups on the courts playing Mortimer and Carole’s group enjoying play and welcoming all members who want to learn and have fun. This is what being a part of LAPA is all about. Coaches Corner Don’t try to make every shot a winner; have a plan. The first shot sets up the second shot. Be patient, work together with your partner and take advantage of your opponent’s mistakes. Remember my #1 rule: HAVE FUN! LA SWIM CLUB By Sandy White Have you ever wanted to be on a sports team but thought you weren't good enough? Well, you are good enough and you are welcome to join the Lake Ashton Swim Club. Our swim club is open to anyone who can swim two (or more) lengths of the HFC indoor pool; and LASC offers an experienced swim instructor/ international coach, who can help you improve your strokes, turns, and swimming efficiency. Adult swimmers, ages 50 and over, compete in local, regional, state, and national competitions all over this country. LA Swimmers have competed and won medals in their age/gender group all over the state in the Nationally organized "Senior Games". Some have 35 even placed at the state championships, and one did an outstanding job at the Nationals. We encourage new members to aim for the Polk County Senior Games in March. So, if you want to get into shape and aim for some fun competition, come join our club, it's free. Work out with us during our reserved pool times on Mondays & Wednesdays 1-2pm and Saturdays 10-11am at the HFC indoor pool.
