LA COMMUNITY GARDEN By Lynn Davis and Karen McLemore Who says Florida doesn’ t have seasons? For gardeners, this is the most exciting one of all! The Lake Ashton Community Garden kicked off its new “Speaker Series” in October with a presentation by Josh Jameson, Owner of Cody Cove in Babson Park. Josh shared his expertise on bed watering systems, composting techniques, and companion planting— sparking plenty of inspiration for our gardeners. Fall is Florida’s true growing season! Now is the perfect time to join us, get your hands in the soil, and enjoy the rewards of fresh, homegrown food. We’d love to welcome new members. Contact Kathy Sites at lacommunitygarden2024@gmail.com for details. This month, AdventHealth will bring a guest speaker to the Clubhouse on Friday, November 7 at 9 am. The Community Garden will host a table outside the ballroom, offering candles and holiday specialties. And don’t miss our next meeting on Wednesday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m., especially geared toward welcoming new members, with recipe handouts and plenty of friendly faces! GARDEN CLUB By Pam Klawinski The October meeting featured member Yvonne Saunders, who gave us an informative presentation on how to extend your herbs by rooting them in water as well as starting plant cuttings in water to make colorful centerpieces. Several herbs, edible plant seedlings and native plants were available to take home for a donation. The November meeting will be held Wednesday, November 12 at 10 am in the Pavilion. 31 “Gene, The Barefoot Gardener” will be back to show us how to divide orchid plants and also to hold a “Plant Clinic”. He will be answering questions on any problems that you may have with your plants. Bring pictures, cuttings or a detailed description of your plant problems and “Dr. Gene” will have the answers. A green thumb or membership are not required to attend and no dues are collected to join.
