SAFETY NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH By Fay Wood, NW Chief Holiday Shopping Tips (Courtesy of Law Enforcement) You can play a key role in preventing crime during the very busy shopping season! • Shop with family or friends. There is safety in numbers! • If shopping while dark, park in a well-lit area. Avoid poorly lighted sections of parking lots. • Lock your packages in the trunk and consider taking a quick trip home to unload periodically. • Keep vehicle doors locked and windows closed. • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Pay for purchases with check, debit or credit card. • Try to avoid ATMs if at all possible. • Don’t try to carry too many packages to your vehicle. If needed, make multiple trips to not be overburdened leaving the opportunity of being caught off guard and vulnerable. • Be aware of surroundings. If you see something suspicious, call 9-1-1 immediately! • Shopping with grandchildren? Take their picture using your phone just before leaving the house so you have the most updated photo including clothing description in case you get separated. Enjoy your shopping, but be smart, be aware and be safe! CITIZENS ASSISTED PATROL (CAP) By Mike Weissberg Citizens Assisted Patrol (CAP) is always looking for more volunteers to patrol the streets. Come help be the eyes, ears, and presence for the Sheriff’s department. Patrols are once a week for two hours. Applications are available in the Clubhouse and HFC.
