LA GARDEN CLUB By Lynn Davis The Lake Ashton Garden Club held its first National Gardening Day on April 14 in the Pavilion. Gene, the Barefoot Gardener, spoke about the care and useful use of Native Florida plants, succulents and a wide variety of both outdoor and indoor plants. Many of the plants showcased were natural pollinators for both bees and butterflies. After his presentation a silent auction was held. Both the presentation and auction were a huge success! Proceeds will be used towards the purchase of plants around the perimeter of the Pavilion and future speakers at meetings. Thank you to all who participated and made generous contributions to the club. This was a wonderful opportunity to get usually twenty dollar plants for $3 or less. Members of the club donated plants, books, containers and much more! The club hopes to have another silent auction in the future. The club meets every second Wednesday of the month at 10 am in the Pavilion. The group hopes to begin planting around the Pavilion by early May. Please consider joining in on the fun. LA ROCKERS By Connie Strassberg Hard to believe that the season is just about coming to an end and that snow birds will soon be leaving. LA Rockers have been meeting in the HFC ballroom on alternate Wednesdays from 2 to 4 pm. The group has learned decoupage, foiling, and how to make blended backgrounds as well as had a demonstration on how to pour rocks. All this while enjoying a lovely afternoon with other LA Rockers. In addition, the group painted and delivered rocks to a local nursing home, worked on weekly challenges, and continued painting welcome rocks and kindness rocks for the community. Spend an afternoon with a great group of people and learn how to paint rocks! Don't worry if you can't draw or paint - all of your efforts are guaranteed to bring a smile to someone's face.
