LAKE ASHTON PICKLEBALL ASSOCIATION (LAPA) By Becky Wilson The Annual Meeting and potluck dinner for the LAPA was held January 25 at the HFC. A nice turnout of members, all bearing superb dishes of food, made for an enjoyable and productive evening. Officer Elections were held with the following results – Calvin Eakins, President; Chuck Caesar, VicePresident; Lisa Savala, Treasurer; Becky Wilson, Secretary. LAPA is an active Club created to help the growing numbers of Pickleball Players! More and more are playing and LAPA helps with court scheduling, Men’s and Women’s teams, instruction for new learners, and promoting a welcome and friendly atmosphere. Stop by and watch or grab your paddle and come on out! LA PICKLEBALL DAMES WIN CHAMPIONSHIP! By Marilyn Noffsinger The Lake Ashton Pickleball Dames (LAPD) beat Tanglewood in the finals of the South Central Florida Pickleball League (SCFPL) end of season tournament held at Tanglewood February 19. This is the first year the LAPD has won the title! Other teams participating were Del Webb, Lake Wales, Highlands Ridge, and Sun ’n’ Lake. LA Team Members playing were: Jackie Tanner, Deb Louder, Marilyn Noffsinger, Dianne Holman, Carmen Woodlief, Kristine Nelson, Lisa Savala, Becky Wilson, Lin Jones, and Donna Kavitsky. Other members playing during the season were: Sandy Alford, Teresa Caesar, Margi Smoller, Linda Boast, Sue Fitzgerald. The championship banner will be on display at the Pickleball courts. 35
