BLANKETS OF LOVE (BOLLA) By Pat Neaves Many activities are on summer hiatus. Not BOLLA! Although the group has smaller numbers during the summer months, the ladies continue making blankets in preparation for deliveries to school counselors, Polk County Schools Homeless, etc. during the month of August. This is a great time for anyone wanting to join a fun activity at Lake Ashton to check the group out. Can’t sew? No problem! If you can tie a knot, you’re welcome to join! Stop by the Clubhouse Craft Room any Monday from 1 to 3 pm. It’s fun, relaxing, and very rewarding being part of bringing a little sunshine into a child’s life. LA ROCKERS By Connie Strassberg LA Rockers is a group committed to painting and hiding rocks as “random acts of kindness”. In addition, the rockers have distributed "Welcome" rocks to new residents, painted rocks to hide at special events like the Breast Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament, donated rocks to local nursing homes for the holidays, and created rocks for Memorial Gardens. At the annual July 4th Fundraiser and Silent Auction, many residents shared stories of how much finding decorated “gifts” served to brighten their day or make them feel comfortable in their new home. Mission accomplished! LA Rockers meets every other Wednesday from 2 to 4 pm in the HFC Community Center. August meetings will be the 11th and 25th. Newcomers are welcome to come and see what the Rockers do, and join in on the fun! LA SWIM CLUB By Sandy White Hopefully you all have enjoyed watching the Olympics, especially the water sports. There was a new sport: surfing, new swim events, and a name change from Synchronized Swimming to Artistic Swimming. These Olympics were certainly unusual with no foreign spectators allowed (including parents) and very strict COVID protocols. The final swim night is August 1 on NBC and the closing ceremonies will be August 2. (continued on p. 35) 34
