CLUBS THE ART GROUP By Lyn Rogers If you like to make art, join the group in the Clubhouse Craft Room on Monday mornings any time between 9 am and noon. There are water colorists, oil painters, and colored pencil drawers among other things. Bring whatever you are working on and join in the fun. Hope to see you there. CREATIVE QUILTERS By Marsha Martin The Creative Quilters has changed their "Project Day" to the second Tuesday of the month at 1 pm for the summer. The project for May was learning the super easy block for the wildly popular Chandelier Quilt. The project for June has yet to be decided but the classes are always instructional, easy, and full of laughter! A shopping trip — with lunch! — is being planned for later this summer. LA DEMOCRATIC CLUB By Shelley Miller The Lake Ashton Democratic Club is holding their monthly meeting June 2 via Zoom and in-person at the HFC. Social time with snacks is from 4 to 4:30 pm. Please bring your own beverage. The in-person General meeting and Zoom will start at 4:30. The June speaker is Dell Quary, candidate for Polk County School Board, District 7. The Lake Ashton Garden Club members updated the front of the Pavilion and planted Native Florida Plants on the side nearest the Clubhouse pool. Plant markers were 34 added to assist current and new community re s i d e n t s interested in low maintenance Florida friendly plants. Please come visit and enjoy on a walk or golf cart ride. Thanks to all community members who donated funds to make this happen. The next meeting will be held in the Clubhouse Ballroom June 8 at 10 am. There will be a guest speaker from UF/ IFAS. Join the meeting and learn about beneficial pollinators and plants that attract both bees and birds. New members are always welcomed. GENEOLOGY CLUB By Jane Imparl Come join the Genealogy Club to find your ancestors and enjoy the company of some of your LA neighbors who have this similar interest. The next meeting is June 8 at 2 pm in the HFC Craft Room. Bring your questions, ancestor stories and digital devices if you’d like. For more information call Jane at 815-545-6655. LAVA AUXILIARY By Chris Graves THANKS to all who supported the “Red, White and Blue Tie a Bow” fundraiser. It was a tremendous success! More bows have been ordered for future Patriotic Holidays. More info to come. SAVE THE DATE: The 2022 Craft Show is right around the corner — October 22. Crafters are needed! Reserve a table for $50 to sell your handcrafted items. Call Joan at 239-851-7899. LAVA Auxiliary was able to support the LAVA Golf tournament on May 21st by providing a “ROVING CANTEEN.”LAVA Auxiliary volunteers provided beverages and doughnuts for the golfers. This is just one of many ways LAVA and LAVA Auxiliary work together for the benefit of the military. Please note there will be no June meeting.
