MIND&BODY CLASSICAL MUSIC APPRECIATION / MUS IC HISTORY SERIES The classical music history program continues Mondays at 3 pm in the Clubhouse Cinema starting January 2. The look at Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach concludes and then will explore the music of Classical Era composer Joseph Haydn later in the month. LA resident Ken Hoffman explains the music and the historical events that influenced the composers of the eras. Learn about many renown musicians of the past 60 years while viewing films of them playing the music. Class discussion is encouraged. Newcomers can sign up in class. CAREGIVERS SUPPORT An all-encompassing Caregiver Support Group facilitated by the Alzheimer's Association will be held on January 10 at 11 am in the Clubhouse Conference Room. This group is for Caregivers and Care partners of people living with Alzheimer's, Dementia, Parkinson’s, ALS, Cancer, and Diabetes. People who are living with the disease are welcome to attend with their care partner. This support group is conducted by trained facilitators and is a safe place for everyone to develop a support system. Sign up at the Clubhouse Information Wall. Next month’s meeting: February 14 HEALTHY LIVING FOR YOUR BRAIN & BODY What’s good for the heart is good for the brain. Join the Alzheimer’s Association to learn science-based recommendations for taking care of our brains and bodies and tips on how to make small changes to build healthier habits. This special “Ask the Expert” presentation will feature Dr. Aryn Harrison Bush, a USF research professor, the Vice President of Science and Translation, and Director of Brain Health and Cognition at Reliance Medical Centers, and Carol White, an Alzheimer’s Association Community Educator. WHAT IS A MUNICIPAL AIRPORT? Have you ever wondered what is a municipal airport and how it is an asset to the surrounding area? Those questions and many more will be answered by the Lake Wales Municipal Airport Manager, Amanda Kirby, on January 24 at 6 pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom. SKIN CANCER SEMINAR & DINNER Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, with millions of cases diagnosed each year. Nearly 20 Americans die from melanoma every day, which is the most deadly form of skin cancer. If detected early, skin cancer is highly treatable. This is why you should not wait. Residents are invited to join a group of dermatology provides for a free dinner and seminar on February 7 at 6 pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom to learn everything you should know about prevention, detection and treatment of skin cancer.
