CLUBS JUST FOR FUN BOCCE BALL By Darlene Henry Meet on Thursdays from 10 am to noon at the Bocce ball courts located behind the Clubhouse. Bocce ball is a bit like bowling, except the balls are much smaller and easier to use. This new group is for beginners and folks who just want to play for fun and meet others. You can visit and just watch, or learn the simple rules of the game. There can be a team of two, or a team of four. Basically, you roll the ball toward the target (a small white ball) and try to get as close as you can. Your opponents try to get closer than you. The official beginning this season will be Thursday, January 12. BYOB and your own snacks and join! Email Darlene Henry at rdhenrybills@gmail.com for more information. NEW PLAYERS PICKLEBALL CLASS By Dennis Santino Join our two-day newbie clinic to learn this fun sport! It will be held from 11 am to 12:30 pm on January 9 and 16 on courts 3 and 4. LA HEALTHY OPTIONS CLUB By Lori Barr Lake Ashton Weight Management Group has changed its name to Lake Ashton Healthy Options Club. Starting out as an encouragement to those who want to lose weight or get tips for healthy eating, we have morphed into so much more. Though none of us are experts, we have been sharing our health journeys with each other. Topics have included our dietary needs as older adults, like protein, fiber, healthy carbs, etc. Discussions have centered on Cholesterol control, stress eating, getting stronger after setbacks, and staying on track with health strategies. We share recipes and discuss how we can make our favorites recipes healthier. We are a fun group of residents who are on a health journey together. Won’t you join us? We meet on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15 to 4:15 in the Clubhouse Card Room. Please contact Lori Barr at 505-301-1904 (call or text). LA WOODWORKERS ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING By Fred Powell Lake Ashton Woodworkers will be holding their annual Membership meeting on January 16 at 10:30 am in the Clubhouse. Gently used items of all kinds are accepted except clothing, TVs, phones, computers, printers, books and Christmas decorations. This is the group’s major fundraiser enabling BOLLA to continue their mission of making blankets for children in crisis in Polk County.
