LAMGA By David Kubissa The annual LAMGA Member-Guest Tournament has an enduring thread of family ties running through the event since it began in 2006. This year’s tourney – celebrating its 20th anniversary -- was no exception. By my count, 20 of the 60 teams were composed of players with family connections to one another. Father and son, grandfather and grandson, brothers, and brothers-in-law, to name a few. They came together to reunite over three days of golf from March 5-7. Many of the teams displayed their family pride with matching shirts, and frequently a different design for each day. The final scoreboard showed that the family teams weren’t just about appearances. They brought game: 13 of them finished among the top three in their flights (see the full list of winners on the LAMGA page at lakeashtonliving.com.) Of course, none of this would have been possible without dedicated sponsorship from all corners of the Polk County community. The 71 sponsors who put up money to help celebrate the 20th anniversary tournament included a wide range of businesses and professional services. The LAMGA board is grateful for this support and encourages the Lake Ashton community to consider these sponsors when seeking their products or services. A tribute to those sponsors will appear each month in this article through December, starting with today’s list of major sponsors. The full list can be found on the LAMGA page at lakeashtonliving.com. Major sponsors salute: Ryan Bates / Bates Capital; Chris Bruser, Mutual of Omaha; Amerity Financial / Burris Warner; J.R. Golf Carts; Red Hoagland Hyundai; Snowbird Heating & Cooling; Enriquez Lawn & Landscaping; Weikert Ford; Mahalak Auto Group; Art’s Golf Carts. MESSAGE FROM THE PRO SHOP By Kevin Baker, General Manager The Golf Team would like to thank all 73 participants who competed in the 2026 Lake Ashton Club Championship, the final and most prestigious championship event of the season. The Men’s and Ladies divisions both showcased outstanding competition and sportsmanship throughout the two-day tournament. Day one presented challenging windy conditions that kept the leaderboard tight and exciting, including a three-way tie for first place in the Men’s Division heading into the final round. On day two, players rose to the occasion with impressive performances, highlighted by Robert Whittington’s outstanding final-round score of 73 to secure the Men’s Club Championship title. In the Ladies Division, Lisa Kennedy delivered a strong opening round that positioned her well for the final day. She followed it up with another solid performance to capture the Ladies Club Championship and complete an excellent tournament weekend. They both are pictured below. Events like the Club Championship reflect the strong spirit of competition and camaraderie that make Lake Ashton Golf Club such a special place to play. Thank you again to everyone who participated, supported the event, and helped make the championship a success. We look forward to seeing you at many more exciting tournaments and club events in the months ahead!
