LA NINERS By Sandy Hockenberry The LALGA Solheim Tournament was held March 2 and 3 and provided 2 days of great golf and friendly competition. The matches were very close throughout the event, with the Red Team narrowly edging out the Blue Team. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the tournament so enjoyable. A special thank you to the tournament committee (Muriel Bouman, Cheryl Coveleskie, Rita Lee, Deb Louder, Cindy Peck, Barb Reid and Janis Vasquensa) for all their hard work organizing a wonderful event for our league. The End of the Year Play Day, Luncheon and Annual Meeting will be Tuesday, April 14. The theme is Garden Par-Tee. The game is a straight scramble. Lunch and annual meeting will be at the Eagles Nest after play. During the annual meeting, awards will be presented to members for accomplishments in golf and to formally announce the elected officers for the upcoming season. Members, please do not miss this closing luncheon and wrap up of the 2025-2026 LALGA Season. Lydia Fichtman, committee chair. The Red Hoagland Challenge recognized the top four money winners for the year. The challenge concludes at the end of May. Current standings are 1st place: Nancy Zografos $205.70; 2nd place: 40 Donations to the Snively Elementary School’s reading incentive program are going well. The gift card donations will be delivered to the school and used to reward the children who reach their annual testing goals. Please feel free to drop a gift card or two at the Pro Shop. The Niners are also proud to sponsor a hole, or maybe two, of the upcoming Bob Harmon Memorial Golf 4 the Cure Tournament, through generous membership donations. The tournament will be held on May 2, at the Lake Ashton Golf Course. 100% of the monies go the Michael J. Fox Foundation, for research to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. April games include: April 7: Par 3 Scramble – Each player hits her tee shot from the orange flags, select the best shot and everyone plays from there. Repeat until the ball is holed. (team game) April 14: 1 Best Net Even / 2 Best Nets Odd – Playing your own ball, record the best net of the foursome on the even holes and two best nets of the foursome on the odd holes. (individual game) April 21: Las Vegas Scramble – Players are assigned a number 1 – 4. Each player hits a tee shot, then a die is rolled, the number rolled on the die determines whose ever tee shot is used on that hole. Traditional scramble is played, the remainder of the hole. (team game) April 28: Convert 1 Hole to Par – Playing your own ball, at the end of the round, each play decides which hole they want to convert to par (individual game).
