INTRO TO EKPHRASTIC POETRY October 7th, 3:00pm-4:30pm Newcastle Library Love the visual arts? In this class, you’ll learn how engaging with art can inspire your poems. The mode of “ekphrastic writing” is defined as descriptive writing influenced by the visual arts. We’ll learn methods of art engagement and ways of responding to art, we’ll read ekphrastic poems, and we’ll pen our own. Artwork will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own. Then join us for our All-Ages Poetry Coffee House at Newcastle Library on Saturday, Oct. 21 to read your new poems. Registration is required on the KCLS website. This event is also put on in partnership with Friends of Newcastle Library ALL-AGES POETRY COFFEE HOUSE October 21st, 4:00pm-5:30pm Newcastle Library Join us for an afternoon of open mic poetry reading and coffee! Share your inspirational poems or read a favorite work, meet fellow poets, and be inspired to write more poetry to install on the Lake Boren Park Poetry Wall! Refreshments will be served and random prizes will be given to those in attendance throughout the program. This event is also put on in partnership with Friends of Newcastle Library JEWELRY MAKING WITH ROBOTMOM November 4th, 11:00am-12:00pm Newcastle Library Make beautiful earrings and a necklace - for yourself or a gift. Guided by Renton’s RobotMom using her signature resin and diamond glaze. All supplies provided. Please register on the KCLS website. Space is limited. SONGS OF THE SEASON December 2nd Newcastle Commons Mark your calendars for a holiday concert performance by students from some of our local schools. This will be the second year for this program which will become an annual tradition. More information will be available closer to the event date.
