Hi there! My name is Watson. I was transferred in from another shelter as a stray. I am a little bit shy at first, but I will warm up to you quickly. I am one bubbly, happy-go-lucky boy once I am comfortable! I tested positive for tick borne diseases and I may require treatment in the future. I get along with some other dogs and I would do well with children that play nice with me. I would need to have supervision with any cats that may be in my new home to make sure that I want to be friends with them. I am your typical husky and I do like to talk and howl! I would like to have a nice bed and some toys that I can call my very own. I walk nice on a leash so it would be so much fun to get out and see all of the sights and sounds. I have energy to burn and I am looking for a family that is as busy as me to move in with! I am sure that once you meet me you will make me the newest furry member of the family! Hello! I am happy to announce that we’ve had multiple animals, including several adorable puppies and kittens, find new homes within the last several months! A special thanks to those who make this happen, including our volunteers and dedicated staff: our Animal Technician, Development Coordinator, Assistant Manager, and all other amazing HSL staff! Additionally, thank YOU all in our community for your continued support. With more volunteers, more animals finding loving homes, and more donors to support the Humane Society of the Lakes mission, we are well on our way to overcome this COVID-19 pandemic. I would like to extend a great thank you to all of those who have supported us through these uncertain times. We have received a number of donations, WeCare receipts, and support to help sustain our animals. It is truly touching to see our community come together and support animals in need. It is my hope that we continue to support each other, harboring new relationships and partnerships within our community. My pets have always been central to my life – best friends, counselors, entertainers, and personal trainers. But if you are like me, this whole pandemic has brought fur family relationships to a whole new level of importance. I have been with my dog Lily constantly. I feel like I know her better than I ever have, and I’ve needed her more than ever before. I don’t believe our world will ever go back to what it once was prepandemic. Some things will have evolved to a point of no return. We prioritize differently. We live our lives differently. And I truly believe that this whole thing has brought human-animal relationships to an even more sacred and integrated part of our lives. My two-year term as president is nearing an end. It has been an experience unlike any other. I have learned so much about what it takes to run a non-profit, and I will never again take for granted the businesses and non-profits of the world. It has been a real honor to work alongside shelter staff and board members with amazing talent and passion for animal welfare. And I would like to also acknowledge you, our donors, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters for all you have done and will continue to do to make the Humane Society of the Lakes the amazing place it is today. Even in the face of financial chaos and fear, you continue to support our important work. And never before has it been this important. Not only are you helping to rescue cats and dogs, you are saving the humans that needed rescuing too. All my best, Alissa Mork hslpresident@gmail.com HONEY ROCKY 4 TAHITI RASCAL

JULY ADOPTIONS AUGUST ADOPTIONS SEPTEMBER ADOPTIONS DOGS: 2 CATS: 6 DOGS: 9 CATS: 8 DOGS: 13 CATS: 6 Oh, the holidays; such a fun time of year! At HSL we love when the holidays come around so we can celebrate with the animals. We dig out all of the silly Halloween costumes and dress them up, give them extra special dinners for Thanksgiving, and buy presents to watch them unwrap for Christmas. Holiday dinners are amazing and we tend to want to share them with our fur family, but did you know a lot of those foods can actually harm our pets? Some of the holiday foods your pet shouldn’t eat include: turkey (in large amounts), turkey bones, gravy, stuffing, raisins, apple pie, and onions. Instead of setting a plate down for your pooch, here is a fun recipe to make just for them! Pumpkin Pie For Dogs Ingredients: • Oat flour (pulsed into a flour consistency) • Unsweetened applesauce • Banana • Unsweetened pureed pumpkin • OPTIONAL: Low-fat plain yogurt for topping Instructions • Preheat oven to 350º • For the topping: • You can thicken the yogurt by placing it in a mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth or a large coffee filter, • Set the strainer over a bowl to catch the whey. • For the crust: • In a mixing bowl, stir together the flour and applesauce until a nice dough ball forms. • Divide the dough into 24 equal sized pieces • Place a ball in each well of a mini muffin tin and press to flatten. • Bake the crust for 8 min or until just starting to color • Let cool before removing from pan. • For the filling: • Peel and mash the banana in a large bowl. • Add the pumpkin puree and stir to combine. • Divide the filling among the pie crusts and top with yogurt. 5

Marshall's first day home was a success. He explored his new yard and house. So far his favorite places are the love seat, the bean bag, and wherever I am. I know there was some uncertainty about whether or not he was trained, and I'm happy to say that he is. He always let's us know when he needs to go outside. I usually take him outside on the leash and he is showing improvement every time. When I grab the slip leash and open it up, he even comes over and puts his head into it. He's a great dog and we are so grateful we got to adopt him. Jinxy has fit into our home wonderfully! Adopting him was one of the best decisions we could have made! He made himself at home almost immediately and is such a good boy! He loves playing with pony tails and all of his cat toys, catching house flies, going for walks in our backyard, and snuggling of course. We love our Jinxy boy!
